i think its based on your own opinions, but i would say yes, seeing as he was the only person who knew what was going on and the first to be intentionally killed.
I played Ralph in a play of it a couple of years ago, i would say so too, on similar grounds to turgon. If i remember correctly it was the point in which tension was raised, etc.
I haven't read the book since last year, but from what i remember it marked the absolute break down of civilisation in their 'society.' Also, thinking about what Simon symbolises, a jesus like character, that could certainly be brought into it somewhere, perhaps his death represented an inevitabilty in the boys society... i'm not too sure on that though, it has been a while.
