Had a near heart attack !

Got an email from Citu to say we won't hear anything till the 23rd January! They must of gotten a lot of applicants this year !

Ha Rainbow it's ok ! I didn't want to go to UCL. I really want to get into City, so I wasn't too bothered that they didn't accept me. It must be very hard ! The people you met at your interview..:how much experience did they have or what was their experience ?

Oh! Have you heard from Reading yet ??

Fair enough, I'm really hoping its good news from City for you! I got that email too!

Erm one girl was working in a hospital not in SLT but in patient experience. Some body worked for an ASD charity part time. Can't remember all of them. Some people were in final year at uni but they seemed to be a minority - most people seemed to have taken some time out to work. I found one person who left uni the same year as me which was good as I was worried most people would only have taken a year out and I have taken three!! I didn't meet any other SALTAs though so it really is just about a range of experience with different client groups.

No still not heard from Reading. I will email soon, I think they have forgotten me!!

Sorry to hear that :frown: I really hope that you get interviews at your other choices, keeping my fingers crossed for you. Hopefully you will hear from City soon Adesola. I can't remember where else you applied Jfay?
If it's any consolation the people at the interviews all had great experience, it must have been hard to choose who to invite to interview so try not to take it personally. Hopefully they might give you some feedback.

I didn't get in either. It's even more heartbreaking not getting in for a second year. Makes me think I'm not cut out for it

Oh No, I'm so sorry :frown:
You are - you got onto the waiting list at City last year! I'm also keeping my fingers crossed for you for your City application! Are you waiting to hear from anywhere else?
Did you get any feedback from UCL this time? How did you feel the interview went?

I'm so sorry to hear this, I just got my rejection email too. It's so heart breaking! What are your plans now?

I think it went better than last year but obviously not good enough

Waiting to hear from City
still applying to Essex and Manchester Met I think (I read that the application deadlines are still upcoming, I hope that's right)

I honestly don't think I will get in
not sure what I will do instead, there's only so much time I can work in a dead end job (with **** pay) just to get experience

In the same exact boat as you. Have no idea what to do next and so hard to stay optimistic.

I'm sure you'll hear back from City too. I agree though, it's disheartening.

Well done to everyone who did get an offer! Rainbow did you hear back from UCL?

Sorry to hear!
I've looked in to other courses that interest me but none have a clear career path that is anything like SLT. Which makes it harder.

Yeah same. And my experience has all been geared towards SLT. I guess I could go into teaching? But it's really not something I'm passionate about.

I was advised to pursue being an advisory teacher for children with hearing impairment (HI) as I am very interested in HI but that would involve studying teaching first which I don't really want to do

Yes definitely get your applications into ManMet and Essex! That's three chances of getting on the course still so keep positive
What do you do for a job?

I'm really sorry to hear that :frown: Did you apply to City as well? Definitely try and stay positive!

Yes, I did hear from UCL and I have been offered a place. I agonised over posting this because I know how you all must feel as I would be devastated and disheartened too if I had not got a place :frown: and the last thing you want to hear about is someone who got a place. But I love the support everyone gives each other on this thread and I am definitely keeping my fingers crossed for all of you and hope you get good news from your other choices.

My best advice is to stay positive about SLT. I started a PGCE thinking that was what I wanted to do, what I was passionate about, and I didn't finish it! My advice would be not to do it if you are not passionate about it because even if you finish the course you will not enjoy the job. It's better to spend a bit more time now finding something you enjoy rather than lots of years in a job you hate. However, I do think being a ToD as Danielle mentioned below is quite a good job but you have to do a lot of training to get there.

Yes this is a very interesting area/job. I work in HI and work with ToDs in a unit, but as you say a lot of them work in an advisory role, travelling around from school to school/home. To be honest, they know more than me on speech and language - they cover a lot of it in their training!! But they have particular, specialist areas they cover and obviously it is all linked to deafness. But I agree, a very interesting job that I knew nothing about until about a year ago!! If you have any questions about it I can try to answer them/ ask one of the ToDs I work with. As you say though you have to do teacher training first :frown: I think you should stay positive about SLT first.

If there is anyone lurking around waiting to hear from Reading I found out today that they are hoping to have informed everyone about the outcome of their application by the end of February - that's what the admissions office told me today. So we might still be in for a long wait!
Hey Rainbow!

So happy for you! I'm pleased someone from this thread got on the course - that's encouraging and exciting news! Was UCL your first choice or are you waiting for Reading?

Yeah looking into other fields now and thinking of applying to Essex. Want to give it my all before I give up entirely!

I'm really glad you got in! I've potentially got another chance with City and the others I apply to! I know you had issues with City and am so happy that you got a place!!

Rainbow !!!! I'm so happy for you ! Congratulations ! You don't need to feel bad at all ! You've waited around two years ? to get into the course (taking time out to get experience). So all was worth it in the end !

Thanks  I love UCL but if I got an interview at Reading I would go (but think that is unlikely). I guess I would then decide depending on the feeling I got. As I say I think UCL is fantastic and I think I would love the course, the only things putting me off are the living costs in London and probably having to sell my car (silly I know but I get quite homesick and being able to go home regularly/quickly really helps with this). I just need to look into finances really, I'm hoping to get some extra days at work soon which would help.

Definitely apply to Essex, it is meant to be a good course

The admissions office were like... 'As you have yet to be rejected outright your application may still be being considered'... Which didn't sound too positive but I'm not so worried about it now tbh.

Thank you! Yes, I've been trying to get experience for nearly two years now!! Just got to hope I can cope with the course now or the whole thing was a waste of time. I love my job now but some days/weeks are really stressful and that's just as an assistant 😂 There's never enough time in the day!!

Hi everyone,

Has anyone got an interview for Essex next wednesday? I am really nervous and not sure what to expect! Obviously I know not too much can be said about it, but was wondering if the maths test is hard? and the type of questions they ask at the interview?
Hey,

I didn't realise Essex were interviewing? I thought their deadline was in March?

I second this! It says March

The deadline is march but I applied really early in December and got invited for an interview straight away, initially they asked me to come in on December 5th to interview so they must have been interviewing since then! but I couldn't make that date so they rearranged it to Wednesday 25th. They must be getting back to people as they get applications rather than waiting until after the deadline :/
Oh that's super helpful to know.

I didn't realise there was a Maths test involved! That makes me very anxious!!!!

It might be worth checking previous threads from the last few years to see if they've discussed the interview? Might give you some insight into the questions etc?
