The UK, unlike Switzerland, is one of the biggest economy's in the world. The UK is Germany's biggest trading partner and the UK is also an active member in NATO, the UN and the G7.

Would you not think our successful economy has something to do with membership in the EU ?
How is being a member in NATO,UN and G7 going to help us in negotiations with the EU ?

Switzerland is just smaller due to less land and population. Their economy is more successful than ours per capita. It has a developed financial services sector and is the country outside the EU closest to what britain is trying to achieve via Brexit.

The OP makes a good point about freedom of movement and it being a sticking point. They will have to come to some deal, but at the moment that will have to include some form of free movement and payment to the EU of £££ itherwise you can kiss access to the free market on favourable terms, goodbye.

It is against the interests of the EU to permit access to the free market without the UK making £££ contribution or some form of free movement, because it may prompt others to believe they can leave, but still get a favourable deal. That would go against the EU, which is more importnat than any trade with UK.

Bit about NATO G7 and UN irrelevant.
