When you answered the question I just got myself a mental kick!

70 into 280 .. of course it's 4

You know what.. I'm gonna get myself a primary school book and go back to smaller numbers until I can do them off the top of my head THEN tackle the big ones. Little steps...

*feels like a numpty now*

ah yeah that would make sense lol, hows the revision going jaidus? when you going to OASC?

Revision is going better now I've got the hang of it.

don't have a date as yet. As an intelligence officer I should ideally have been a resident in the UK for 10 years. However about 7 years ago I spent a year in south africa studying at a cooking school there 9long story there) anyway, my recruitment officer wants to check to see if I can be granted a residency waver for it or something for the security check.

Once he has the answer he'll get me booked in for my interveiw (letting me know if I need to change to my second option) and go from there

Got all my fingers and toes crossed here but if I don't get Intelligence officer I've been looking at Aerospace Battle manager: Surveillance specialist

I really want to work with images

If you are not successful it Intelligence Officer, why not go for something else? For DV clearance you will need at least 10 years history and depending on the country you lived, you may not get clearance, but for other branches like ABM, ATCO, Flt Ops I think it's 5 years and requires SC level clearance.

Well I was actually thinking about Aerospace Battle Manager - they state on the website they are 'most wanted'

Since the surveilence section is working with imagery (which would make my BA hons in visual Communication useful) they might give me clearance. I see alot of people going for IntO but not ABM.

Edit: that and the title alone... Battle Manager ... just sounds so awesome!!!

I recently sat the FATs but didn't pass. My maths was my weak area they said, although he was very cagey. I sat that FATS for the Royal Navy FAA though, so may be different to RAF. unfortunatley, the week before I took them i found this - www.fatpass.co.uk
It was the most similar download i found to the actual test. Other useful resources were thatquiz.org and speeddistancetime.info. I wish I'd had that fatpass.co.uk one for longer. My only advice would be practice for weeks before you go until you get you Speed Distance Time calcualtions fast and accurate. I think mine were a bit too slow
Navy FATS are EXACTLY the same to RAF aptitude tests. You sit them in the same place, do them at the same time, do the same test.

Does that website make a difference?

i thought it helped with my speed distance time. it has a lot of maps with distances and tables that is a lot like what was at Cranwell - makes your brain work quite hard. i also tried one from prep4oasc.com, but that didnt have questions that were that representative of the FATs, i thought.

cheers mate might get it then, just wanted to see if anybody had used it first before i bought it.

yeah, I would recommend the fatpass.co.uk one. It's only 7 quid and you get very detailed questions for that.... waiting now for my resit date next year, just hope fatpass.co.uk bring out a V2.0 soon so i can get on with some new questions

I bought it yesterday on your advice. It seems really good, it explains different methods of doing speed distance time questions and has lots of them to practice of varying difficulty. I've heard that the questions it has at the end are like the tricky ones you get at the OASC.

just need to get better at doing them now

RichIII. Fancy writing one of the tough questions at the end of this book of yours?? I'm pretty confident with SDT things, but it'd be good to be sure I can do even the hardest with relative ease.
Reply 195
they use maps with distances, tables of fuel consumption and speeds, aircraft weights etc. then you answer questions using the data. So its tricky to post here. If youre already pretty good then maybe you wouldnt need it, but I havnt found any resource that uses these maps etc, so I feel better after working through these
does anyone know of any books/sites/articles etc on SDT for AOSB selection? cheers! needing help with this part...

I bought this and downloaded it last night and had a crack this evening. Unfortunately on checking my answers I found the answers on the "Answers Page" to be scarily wrong :woo: . I double checked my workings out and then checked again with a calculator. There are some good exercises in the book but if you can't check your own work with confidence then don't waste your money. It's as if the author has got a 10 year old to guesstimate the answers and taken his word for it. Shame really as it looked quite promising. Instead of whizzing through the marking, I am actually marking the author's work for him/her. I have given up emailing the author about the mistakes as there were too many and have simply asked for a refund instead. I'm at OASC on Sun 29 Mar 09 and I am actually quite enjoying the practice.

I'd say use the stuff in this. It helped me.

http://www.speeddistancetime.info/ Works quite nicely. With the AOSB you won't have very difficult questions but you will be under alot of pressure so work yourself up to the difficult ones as well. Learn your divisions of the clock to help. Ie how many 5's in 60 etc.
cheers for that!
have you been AOSB?
