Trump secures deep-reaching powers for NSA spying

The Patriot Act was passed by George W Bush's administration, in the wake of 9/11. Trump's administration have done nothing (their speciality, it seems), and the article makes it clear why: because the powers the law provides have not expired yet.

When they do, they will almost certainly be extended, as they have been several times already under both Bush and Obama. It's possible legislators might push for some concessions when this is brought up for debate, but the majority of the surveillance powers granted by the act will likely remain the way they are.
Speaking of power how is he allowed to declare Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

He hasn't, he's effectively recognised it as Israels capital though [something they have been pushing for for ages] by saying he'll move the embassy there. More or less a semantic difference but still.
