Architecture: Cardiff or Newcastle

So I have only visited Cardiff, and I quite liked it. However, I have a friend who knows people there, and he tells me that, according to his contacts, Cardiff is not such a great place to study. So is any undergraduate or post graduate there able to tell me otherwise? (especially those studying architecture.

My other option is Newcastle, It looks like an awesome place to study and I will be visiting a holder day come February/March. I can compare official statistics till the cows come home, but I am more interested in talking to people who have actually been there!
