If you think there is NOT a vast amount of knowledge in Anaesthetics, A&E, Surg and Path then I am afraid you will have a rude awakening...

But think of the $$! :p:
Has to be A&E just because of the crazy stories and the amount of saline fights you can take home with you...
I like reading newspapers and stuff so probs a gas man innit?

Bets are most of you are going to change your minds. I'll probably end up as a GP if I'm honest with myself.
Hopefully something that won't break me.

The rolly polly GP who gets carried away with himself on the weekends is a role that I would gladly fill. The special interest in facebook that Renal mentioned would also be appealing if it were not so mentally and physically taxing.I mean ,hey!, were medics not divine instruments. Not matter how often we think we are.

Is no one thinking of medical genetics?
Don't think I have actually met someone else interested in it

Am I strange?

I know one person who's aiming for it.

I quite like Tropical Medicine... or Paediatrics...

Dunno, I wanna get in first
^^^haha, this is true  I get the feeling that many people's career aspirations will hange many times during medical school. All I know right now is I couldn't stand obs/gynae as a career...my girlfriend's doing a project on it and it bores the hell out of me!
Ive changed my mind in what i want to specialise in.
I would like to specialise in passing OSCE's and learning how to revise for OSCE's!

At the moment I am torn between anaesthetics and paediatrics. May end up specialising in paediatric anaesthesia to combine both.
Im in the early stages of the degree but an intresting speciality that doesnt get spoken about much is public health, eventhough its not really 'hands on' medicine like many of the major specialities such as cardiology I think its quite diffrent. However neurosurgery and general surgery I find very intresting aswell, but I have enough time left to make my mind up so im not in much of a hurry.
ha, this is my first post. the areas i'd most like to end up in are: epidemiology, brainsss, oncology.

i've found downsides to all three, but i think they're all still my favourites  i don't think you'll get to interact with patients the same way as other specialties in epidemiology, i find the science of oncology really boring and the brain is just toooo complicated.

lately, i've been quite interested in the GI/kidney/liver systems too. i don't think i'll ever decide :s-smilie:

I've been wondering just how tough the neuro modules are!! How hard are they in comparison to the rest of the degree?
to be honest, i don't find the exam questions on the brain topics too bad.

but learning all the ridiculous anatomy (why is the skull so lame?), the drugs and getting your head around some of the weird circuits of the brain in the first place can be draining. it's pretty rewarding when you do finish it though  personally, my biggest problem with the topic is that i just don't feel like i know enough about the brain. it's obvious a lot of the science has been glossed over to fit it all into our timetable. i guess it just makes me feel a little uncomfortable. the brain can easily be its own degree rather than a small module in medicine.

I didn't really understand neurosciences after our 1st year (largely as we only had half the basic picture then), and got through it by rote learning. It all made much more sence in year 2, when we covered the rest of the basics..!
