Bath Spa University

I have had an offer from Bath Spa University to study NUTRITION.

I would love to hear about your personal opinions about Bath Spa: the pros, the cons, student life, quality of teaching etc.

Due to COVID-19, I cannot visit this university in person, I can only take part in virtual open days (however, I may do a University tour and visit Bath). As a result, the discussion will be very helpful for me!

Thank you very much! x
Hi, I'm a first year, I'm doing fine art so not sure about anything specific to your course but I love living in Bath, to me it feels very homely and welcoming. The high street is lovely with lots of shops to explore in the backstreets, the high street can get quite busy on the weekends so during COVID I would suggest going on the weekdays as it is significantly quieter. There are beautiful parks all around bath Parade Gardens by Pulteney Bridge and Royal Victoria Park being my recommendations. I would definitely suggest joining a club or society if COVID allows, to meet new people. I cant say too much about nightlife as it's all been closed but the pubs all look lovely, and Bristol is only a 15ish min train ride which has great nightlife. Newton Park Campus is a lovely place, the walk around the grounds is stunning with the lake and parts of a castle and it's about a 20 min bus journey from Newton park campus to town. Good luck with everything!

I didnt actually look at the University of Bath but Bath Spa school of art, aka Bath Spa University is specialised in art and design. You would be on locksbrook campus which is closer to the town centre than Newton Park campus and the 2 most popular student halls for locksbrook students are just a 5 minute walk across the river and right next to lidl and hobbycraft. In the first year fine art studio space everyone gets a desk, stool and wall space each to work on. Due to covid at the moment everyone gets priority days in the studio however you can pretty much go in whenever you like as it's never overly busy. Bath Spa University moved to locksbrook campus in 2019, so it is all still very new and is all open plan, the technical workshops are in rooms with glass walls so the whole building is very bright and sociable. Next to the woodworking, metalworking and sculpture workshops is a large 'messy' area where you can make large scale works/sculptures. All the technicians are super friendly and are more than happy to help you with you works and ideas and helping you to do them. Also the tutors are all practicing artists themselves and are so nice and want to help you with you work. Once a week there are visiting artist and staff talks where they talk through their work and practices. I'm not sure what you work on in your practice but if you paint there is a paint mixing workshop with a specialist technician which I didnt find at other unis I looked at, there are specialist technicians for all the technical workshops. I highly reccomend Bath Spa University for Fine Art, it such a lovely environment to be in. Feel free to ask me anything else and I'll do my best to answer any questions
