Where to study scotland? St Andrews vs. Edinburgh

Hi,
I am currently struggling to decide which university I want to study at. I have applied to study "ecological and environmental sciences" and "biology (ecology)" at Edinburgh and "ecology and conservation" and "earth sciences" at St Andrews.
Can anyone currently studying one of these subjects or at either university give me any advice?
I really don't know which one appeals to me. I like the prestige that St Andrews has and the fact that its a small, beautiful village - it seems like a really close community, but I worry it will be too "fancy" for me. I like that Edinburgh has lots to do - cafes, shops, parks and its seems like a very youthful and vibrant city with lots going on.
