How much should I charge to tutor?

Wondering what hourly rate I should charge to tutor a 7 year old? I’m 17 so I obviously don’t have any qualifications but I was asked to tutor a friends son and wondering how much I should ask for (they have asked me how much).

minimum wage or around £7 an hour
Hello

I have done some research online and this is what I found:
"On average you can expect to pay between £15 and £30 per hour, dependant on subject, location and the tutor's experience. For example, it'll cost more for most tutors in London or specialist subjects"

I hope that helps!
Good job tutoring!

I'm a year 1 university student and I charge £55 per hour for GCSE/A-levels, and I teach around 2-3 students a day. But I guess it depends on your experience / who you teach / whether you're part of an agency or not. (I'm currently in an agency but most of my students are international students)

edit: sorry I just realised that you are only planning to tutor one student, I guess if its a friend you shouldn't charge that much...?

I would put £10 an hour. That's what I did when I was in year 11, and when I moved up to year 12 I charged 15. I got good grades, put effort in, set homework, etc. If you charge more, you have to back it up.

Out of that £55 per hour, how much do you actually get?

I actually get all of that £55. I've been tutoring there for 6 months already, it started off being £35. Students usually pay above £100 for an hour to the agency, it's quite crazy but I'm not complaining... I guess it is sort of an international thing where they tend to spend a lot on private tuition.

What agency do you work with, if you don't mind sharing, and what subjects do you teach? I'm looking to tutor German but I'm not sure how to go about finding students.

We only teach STEM subjects at the agency, I'm sorry. I teach GCSE/A-levels maths, sciences and some oxbridge entrance exams.

Not bad! Yes, I think you're right about international students paying top dollar.

Are you a university student? Lots of tutoring, out of agency work, seems to be word-of-mouth.

That's good to know. I will be (a university student) this autumn and figured tutoring is more flexible than other student jobs, plus I can start working over the summer.

Sounds good to me! I would have thought that there's plenty of A level students in need of some decent tuition in German - not least to crack the grammar.
£10, or £8? Do not sell yourself short but also they're someone you know. I was paid 13 quid by a verified tutoring company 😅😅 as a uni graduate so..... whilst some people charge more if it is the first time you've tutored I would not charge too much.

Where do you find student willing to pay £55 per hour for a uni student? I'm a uni student and there are so many options for around £20-25 that I don't know how I could possibly compete if I charge more.
