Announcement: Debate and Current Affairs Guidance

Hey everyone

For a long time now, the Debate and Current Affairs section has been hampered by threads which descend into rule-breaking, or off-topic conversations and sadly that can lead to quite a lot of threads being closed. It's also been noticed that a lot of time those creating threads do so in such a way that can lead to this happening more often, and more quickly.

Therefore, the Volunteer Team, in collaboration with Forum Helpers and Community Staff have put together two articles:

1. D&CA Good Debating Practice - this serves as a document outlining the sort of posting we want to see in the D&CA section. If we notice individuals going against this we'll remind you about this article.

If we don't see a change in behaviour, the Community Staff can move onto a "Strike" system on your community record - adding Green cards which do not expire, and can result in a temporary or permanent ban from the section.

2. D&CA Thread Starter Guidance - for those creating threads in the forum, this serves as a guidance document for how best to do this. Similar steps can be taken to the above if we're noticing individuals consistently not following this guidance after initial reminders.

Both articles have been added to the "Useful Resources" widget on the forum pages across D&CA:

If you have further questions about these, or suggestions for wording changes or additions, you may post in this thread and someone should be able to answer.

If this thread becomes a place for arguing for or against such guidance - it will be closed, as this is not the thread's purpose.
Thank you for sharing

Hello!

Not sure if you are aware but we stopped using green cards before I arrived?

They still say on the CR of the user but if someone cannot use DCA properly it should be a ban on the site rather than a ban for a specific area.

Thanks!

Why was my thread moderated?

Hello, this is something you need to ask in Ask the Community Staff as none of us know the answer to your question.

Wouldn't it be better to direct people to ACT to ask questions or to suggest changes? This thread is just going to turn into a binfire if you invite people to comment on a policy they probably won't agree with, and can't realistically change. It seems a bit ironic to essentially invite a moderation problem, basically.

Hiya, expectations on posting in the thread have been made clear to all users in the OP (on the need to post questions or suggestions - not opinions). If users choose to ignore this, they will have their posts removed (as is made clear). Since these articles were put together primarily by the Volunteer Team, posting questions in AtCS may not be the best idea as the CS are busy people and this guidance is about the quality of discussions in the section, not Moderation issues.
