Natural Sciences Bath or Durham?

I have an offer for both. Not sure which one I should choose.
Hello,

Thank you for your question. Both are fantastic universities so you are in an understandable situation. Whilst I can't comment in terms of your prospective course, I've listed a few factors below on why Bath is an attractive choice.

- Like Durham, Bath ranks very well both in terms of your prospective course and the overall institution.
- All Bath courses offer the opportunity to do a work placement year. 70% of Bath students do a work placement, it's a big part of University life and contributes to the strong graduate prospects at Bath.
- Bath is a campus university, just a couple of miles away from the city of Bath. That means pretty much everything related to the University is on one site. There are also approximately 3500 first year student bedrooms on campus, so you do have the option of living on the campus for your first year.
- The University campus also has a Sports Training Village, for students to use both individually and as part of sports clubs. Many students join a sports club whilst at Bath, with entry levels at beginner right up to elite performance. You can see our sports clubs here: https://www.thesubath.com/sport/join/
- Equally, there is a huge amount of student societies covering all sorts of courses and interests. You can see our societies here: https://www.thesubath.com/socs/join/
- As a city, Bath is fantastic. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with plenty of history and things to do. It's a compact city in a heavily populated student area, so you get a good community feel. There's plenty going on during evenings/weekends, and Bristol is also only 10mins away by train.

Of course, more information about all of the above is on our website: www.bath.ac.uk. The factors I've listed are by no means exhaustive. I hope this helps and please do ask if you have any other questions.

What do you want to study, and how to the course options at each facilitate your interests? Bear in mind Durham only lets you study chemistry if you specifically applied for it and it should say in your offer whether you are able to study chemistry or not (I gather this is due to the popularity of it and limited lab space). So if you wanted to study chemistry but didn't get an offer including chemistry from Durham that might make up your mind for you!

Thanks. I have an offer from Durham including Chemistry. I would like to keep flexibility, maybe study 3/4 scientificsubjects during my first year and specialise thereafter. Beyond Chemistry, I am interested in Maths, Physics, CS and Biology.

Well something to consider is I think at Durham you will be limited to probably 2 subjects and maths, or 3 sciences (not including physics or CS probably as I imagine they will require you take corequisite maths modules), due to how their course is organised as I recall.

I am not fully familiar yet with the degree structure at Bath but Durham seems to be fairly flexible, at least for the first year. Is one university better regarded than the other in NatSci?
For Natural Sciences 'which Uni' will have no impact on your future opportunities.
NS grads are in high demand because of their breadth of knowledge across science disciplines.

Each Uni structures its NS program slightly differntly so its very much an individual choice about which course holds the most interest for you.

Hi! I'm in exactly the same position as you were and have just applied to Durham Bath and UCL for natsci. Who did you go with in the end and would you mind taking about the experience?

Would also be keen to hear what made them choose Bath or Durham...
