University of Portsmouth Clearing 2022

Hello everyone

Welcome to the UoP clearing thread. A thread full of helpful information and good vibes!

It's monitored by real students and staff members and we can't wait to talk to you and help in any way we can.

In this thread you’ll be talking to:

Lauren - Psychology student entering her second year
Luke - Forensic Psychology student entering his second year.
Chloe - Criminology with criminal justice student
Alex - a member of staff at UoP

What is clearing?

Let's start with a little bit of info about what clearing is and who it's for:

Clearing is for everyone!
- If you haven't applied for uni yet
- You applied but didn't receive an offer
- You're reconsidering options after learning your results (whether that be uni or course)
- You didn't meet the conditions of your offer

We have created some super helpful webinars to help you to understand clearing a bit more and give you the ins and outs of how to apply through clearing.

If webinars aren’t your thing, we’ve also put together an online guide to help you through the application process and a pdf help sheet which you can use on the morning of clearing to keep all your information in one place.

How to contact us?

If you already have your results you can apply now in 3 different ways. Call us on 023 9284 8084 or use the live chat function, or you can use our online form.

If you’re waiting on your results, you can sign up now for advice and tips on how to go about clearing or be extra prepared and book a call-back on A level / T level results day (18 August).

Our phone lines and live chat are open:
- 9am to 5pm Monday to Thursday
- 9am to 4pm on Fridays
- 8am to 8pm on Thursday 18 August (A level / T level results day)

Clearing visit days

Because you are applying through clearing you might not have had the chance to come and visit us yet. Come along to one of our clearing visit days to get a real feel for the University of Portsmouth and the city.

We have two clearing visit days on Saturday 20 August or Monday 22 August which can be booked here.

Finally…

We want to wish you the best of luck for your results and try not to worry if you didn’t get the outcome you wanted - it’s only the start of your journey.

Please remember that no question is silly, we are all here to help in any way we can. If you would like information on student life then tag @University of Portsmouth Student Rep in your message and we’ll reply with our honest opinion.

P.S we also made a fun clearing Spotify playlist for you to enjoy on results day. This is an exciting time so try not to feel too overwhelmed and stressed but equally, it’s totally ok if that’s how you’re feeling too!

Hey!

So I’ve already got my offer at Greenwich to study International Relations and Languages, but after living in London for a few months now prior to starting my BA there, I’ve decided I don’t want to live there for my degree. I’ve already had my full maintenance loan accepted as I’m an independent student.

Am I able to still go into clearing if I’ve already got my offer / I think accepted it from Greenwich?

Is it easy to swap the maintenance loan from full London amount (12k) to full outside of London amount (9.5k I think) and to a different uni with SF?

And finally, I believe there are still spots available in this course, but would I get in with my New Zealand high school grades? I think Greenwich and Portsmouth have relatively similar entry requirements so I’m assuming I shouldn’t have too much issue. But I’m worried about cancelling my offer from Greenwich to try clearing at Portsmouth, and then be rejected.

Sorry for so many Q’s !

Thank you!

Hi @nickkkybid

You can call as many universities as you like during Clearing while still holding your Greenwich offer. So the best thing to do would be to call our friendly Clearing team to chat through your specific situation with them, including checking if there's room on the course you're hoping to do and that your NZ results match the eligibility requirements. If it all looks good, they'll be able make you a non-obligational provisional offer on the phone.

Here are all the ways you can get in touch with the team:

Call us on 023 9284 8084

It's important not to decline your offer from Greenwich until you have another provisional one from us (or any other university you're considering) because you may not be able to get it back should you change your mind or not find another place elsewhere.

In terms of SF, it is possible to switch but it's important to update them on any changes to your situation as soon as possible to minimise the risk of delays to your first payment. The SF support team will be able to give you more specific advice on cut-off dates for payments.

I hope that's helpful and best of luck!

Hi I switched courses from one to another at Portsmouth uni through clearing. How long will confirmation of my clearing choice take?

Also my accommodation was cancelled due to me self releasing to enter clearing. So should I call tomorrow to get it back? Will it work or will my accommodation now be filled?

Hi,
I believe there are still places on the BSc Psychology course here at UoP.

Please see the Official Clearing 2022 help page to apply for this course to start in september.

I hope this helps!

Hi!

I'm not too sure how long this will take, but there is an online clearing 'chatbot' that can help answer this on the Official Clearing 2022 help page.

As for accomodation, I would certainly call ASAP as slots for popular halls etc. fill up surprisingly quick. I'm sure there will be some accomodation left, but it's possible you will have to stay at a different halls of residence.

I hope this helps and good luck!

Hello, I'm planning on applying to Portsmouth for Dental Hygiene and Therapy through UCAS extra or clearing, and I have all of the necessary requirements for the course except GCSE maths, which I'm retaking in May-June, so I was wondering if I would still be considered if I listed GCSE maths as pending or let them know over the phone.

I originally applied for Law with the intention of pursuing Dental Negligence post-grad because my predicted grades were not appropriate for Dental Hygiene, but I only improved my predicted grades after submitting my UCAS, so my personal statement wouldn’t be a good fit, but I do have one for Dental Hygiene from January 2022 that I can submit to them if that's okay.

+ I hear there is only 20 spaces on the course which makes me doubt there’s any spaces on extra or clearing but any advice regarding the above would be greatly appreciated! Thank you:smile:

Hi!

Our Dental Hygiene course is quite competitive, I would recommend that you email our admissions team for this information, to make sure you get the correct info.

Their email is [email protected] - I hope you get the answer you want from them
