Do universities care what you did or if you used your degree?

Universities are getting greedy
What do you mean
why would they care?
Don't think so.
No, universities do not care what you study or what you do after university and the university is not responsible for that. And yes, they are greedy, because you pay thousands of pounds for almost nothing. Most, if not all of the things that you learn at uni can be learnt in your own time through self-paced courses and also you don't need a degree to get a job. It's just an absolute waste, unless you were able to actively contribute at uni, by for example, doing lots of volunteering and being involved in societies and you also had a fair bit of work experience through internships or placements. But not everyone gets into those because they're very competitive. That's why a lot of students that leave university end up being in a similar situation they were 3 years ago. Because they only have a worthless piece of paper, no experience and no support from university. They're just left in deep water. But you don't realise it until you do the degree or have someone else to tell you this.

Degrees aren't really there to be 'useful' in the way a lot of students mean. It's not a golden ticket, this notion has gained prominence since the pseudo-marketisation of universities over the past 15 years.

They simply offer programmes that people want to complete, useful or no. Any instrumentality in terms of 'using' the award is ultimately down to the graduate.

With all that said, following the government's latest schemes, they are increasingly likely to be interested because they are likely going to have to prove their 'value'. A sorry state of affairs from top to bottom. Students sold a pipe dream, institutions moving away from education as its own ends, politicians over meddling. Sad.
