I completely get it. At this point I’ve just resorted to thinking about what happens when I inevitably get rejected because it makes the wait less a stressful ahahha. I wish you all the best and hope we see each other in Oxford! Out of curiosity, just because it’s a really specific course, what are your interests in the field? I haven’t been able to meet anyone irl specialising in visual, material, or museum anthropology !!!!!!
has anyones upload button disappeared yet?
Mine is still there, MSc Soc Anth

Heyy that's true!!! My research interests are basically around two perspectives - how the current commoditisation of folk-art assists and dismantles the construction of the Constitutive Other, and the potential of contemporary arts and exhibitions in mediating the relations amongst social communities. I am quite interested in the field of Professor Clare Harris. Do you mind sharing yours with me? Best wishes to both of us!!
Hi everyone! I'm actually a current MSt History applicant at Oxford (good luck to everyone waiting for their results as well!). I'm graduating with two BA degrees this summer, and one is in Cultural Anthropology (equivalent to Social Anthropology in the UK I believe?). I'm interested in possibly getting a second Master's degree in Social Anthropology, and I was wondering if anyone here would be willing to share info and tips about applying? I'm hoping to get funding, if any of you have information on that as well? And what are you guys proposing for research topics? Feel free to answer if you'd like, and again good luck to everyone waiting for results this application season!
Hey! I'm also currently at oxford doing my undergrad in Arch and Anth! Which college are you at? I'm at Hertford

My interests are kind of overlapping, looking at body modification in north Africa and their historic justifications (both through oral histories and general ontological narratives) as well as the changes certain body modifications undergo due to emergent medical pluralisms.

hey!! Sorry, I misspoke a bit lol, I'm applying to Oxford for MSt History this coming school year - I'm in the U.S. right now actually, wrapping up my BAs! But your interests sound really cool, are you planning on doing those topics for your undergrad thesis? My undergrad thesis was more linguistic anthropology, looking at language ideologies in bilingual dual language programs in Texas  I'm not sure what I would do for my Masters in Social Anth yet, but would probably lean away from linguistic anth lol. Thanks for sharing some info with me about your research!

Ohhh, sorry my mistake. That sounds like such an interesting area of study omg

And yeah, my thesis is focused on body modification in the upper west region of Ghana, and looking at the engagement rates and changes in general ontological perception (and reasons for this)

My proposal revolves around officially sanctioned and individual negotiations of public space in Iran and Tajikistan on one side and on museum and heritage practises in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan on the other . Essentially, all strains of my current and future (I hope!) research focus on the question of identity in the Turco-Persianate sphere. My background is in Persian and Middle Eastern studies so I’m really banking on potential fieldwork because it would compliment my research so well! My current thesis addresses the official murals in Tehran and the new tendency towards folklore and ideas engrained in cultural nationalism in Iran. In short, ahahah, I don’t really know how to summarise everything! All your topics sound so so interesting and I’d be so excited to talk about them in person on day! It’s so good to know I’m not alone in waiting for their responses <3

Sounds rlly interesting! My background is in South and East Asia and my potential fieldwork might be around ethnic minorities such as Tibetan culture. Anyways, thanks so much for sharing your detailed research interest with us. Sincerely hope we can study together ahahha! <3
