Daughter wants to book Archway, but others have said it’s already full! Surely not, it only opened yesterday for confirmed offers? So looking at other accommodation too. Would like to be near Brooks building, self catered & ideally en suite room.

Hi @Moftwo
Yes accommodation goes so quickly!
I study in the Brooks building and I live at MSV. That’s about a 10 minute walk from Brooks. Birley is really close to Brooks but isn’t en-suite. It’s about one between two with bathroom space. Have you checked that out?

best wishes,
Emily

Hi Emily
Yes, we have looked at Birley, but she would prefer an en-suite room, if possible. So looking at Dunham & Vine there. Will take a look at MSV (us that shared with Manchester Uni students too?) Will also look at Briarfield, Millpoint, Needham Court, Medlock House, Oxford Court & Rosamund. Just need to gauge distances to Brooks, Uni Gym etc & also accommodation that socialises but also allows study as course is full on.
How are you enjoying Uni at MMU?

Only Medlock, Rosamund & MSV available with ensuite.

Hi @Moftwo [br] Yes good idea to have a look at them all! There’s multiple gyms in Manchester, so hopefully wherever you are you should be somewhere close? What course is your daughter taking? I go to JD gym and they have fantastic classes which are fab for giving you some head space in a busy week. I know my mates all go to different gyms though, varying in prices. At MSV, there’s a gym on the first floor so i often go there too! MSV is a mix of uni students, not all MMU and not all first years, which I have found is a lovely mix. I study speech and language therapy and am absolutely loving it thank you!

That sounds great Emily.
she is doing Physiotherapy, loves the gym & keen to continue TKD too.
I think her accommodation is going to have to be private halls as nothing coming up on MMU halls.
Do you know anything about New Medlock & Briarfield?
Best wishes

Oh my goodness. I didn't realise the accomodation was being booked up already. My daughter is also doing physiotherapy, but hasn't had all her offers yet so cannot make any decisions.

That’s why we couldn’t apply when it opened as she was waiting on her final offer. Plus we were hoping to look at the next week when we go for the Offers Day, before deciding.
It’s crazy that en suite accommodation went in less than 12 hours! I called the accommodation number and was told it hadn’t all gone, but when trying to book, only Warde & Cambridge shared bathrooms is available. 🤷*♀️ Hoping more will be released 🤞

Oh gosh really, we didn't even think about booking accomodation yet. Although one of her universities allowed her to apply for accomdation as soon as had an offer it didn't matter if hadn't made firm or insurance decisions yet. Hoping for one more uni decision then she can make firm or insurance choice. One of her options are not making a decision until May, but she may not wait for that one.

Just contacted accommodation & they reassured me that they are releasing in batches to make it fair for all. So this sounds more promising & 🤞 we should get something.
Are we supposed to apply for accom as fast as possible? Got my offer a while ago and haven't even started looking lol

Hello,
I booked Cambridge North this morning as nothing else was available and I was panicking. Is it true that they release more accommodation and would it be possible for me to change the booking as I would really like to live anywhere other than Cambridge, I’m worried it is not right for me, I’d really like an en-suite and somewhere like Birley.

Thanks

Hi @Moftwo
I don’t know anyone who lives there personally but if you have enquires I’d email the team for that accomodation. When I first started I didn’t know where I wanted to go and had a personal tour around Cambridge and they were super helpful ! I’d really suggest emailing and see if they can set something up? Do you live far away from Manchester. And her course sounds fab. Manchester have a brilliant array of sport teams/ societies which I bet she would be interested in!

Best wishes

Hi
I didn’t apply for my accommodation for ages and still got a room! However, there was a lot less choice. So if you are happy with going anywhere I wouldn’t worry about doing it straight away. But if you are more set on certain accomodation aspects I would.

Best wishes

Hi @Lebs71
This is what happened to me actually. I think I was definitely more of an en-suite and calmer accomodation type of girl but stuck with Cambridge. At Christmas realised I wanted to still move so went to MSV. It’s worth emailing and asking about a waiting list as people always drop out - as they do with every uni.

Hi, I’m doing physiotherapy at mmu in September too and I wanted archways but I’ve booked new medlock house! What’s your daughters Instagram id love to message her haha! Xx
To include my input as I am starting to search for accom to help finalise my decision of living-in vs commuting, I have been searching for en-suite accoms. I've had a tour at Oxford Court and I believe Cambridge - not entirely sure. Oxford was pretty neat though, the areas are a little small but I've had rooms that are smaller. My friend has booked at Briarfield so I may look around that accom too, any inputs from current/grad students who have lived in en-suite or visited the accoms?
