Uni of Nottingham Accomodation

Hi, Im struggling to choose what accomodation I should apply for at the University of Nottingham: catered or non catered. My parents say I should choose catered because it would be socially and financially better but the food looks kind of gross (Im a vegetarian) and I hate the idea of eating in a dining hall at uni. I also know the self catered accoms are off campus, and might be a bit pricier, and Im also not a great cook so thats a downside. I really dont know what to choose. Also would like to know if anyone has recommendations for the best halls from either option!
Thank you

Hi,

This might be a bit late but personally i would go for self-catered.

I'm also vegetarian and stayed at Broadgate Park last year and found that cooking for myself was a lot easier. Also, I have friends that were in catered halls and always complained about the early meal times and told me that it was not worth the extra price. I've been to my friends accommodation multiple times and yeah the food doesn't look too great.

The only pros (in my opinion) to living in catered is that they are the only halls on campus which means they're closer and receive a free gym membership. Other than that, i would say self-catered is a lot better, especially as broadgate is only like a 5 extra minute walk. Also, keep in mind that catered is only for the weekday and you are given a meal card for the weekend which i think is worth £20.

In terms of social life, it really does depend on personal experience. I'm in self-catered ensuite accommodation at Broadgate with a shared kitchen and i personally haven't had any problems with socialising, but this is also due to the fact i had good flatmates. However, good and bad experiences can apply to catered accommodation too.

When talking to friends in catered accommodation, they have made friends but it's definitely less "intimate" as everyone is in one block, whereas broadgate has 6* people per flat (again it depends on flatmates).

Also, for self-catered, i think it's a better deal in terms of money (definitely from personal experience).

Hope this helps
