3 A-levels vs HNC for Uni / Degree Apprenticeship??

So, what would a university prefer/look more favourably on in a candidate?

I feel like 3 A levels is kind of 'the standard' and shows you are no-fuss candidate that does what is simply expected of them.

However, a HNC is a higher level of education (level 4 vs level 3), is more focused, and a pass automatically proves that you are at least 1st year Uni level.

Also, i'm wondering if a person with a HNC would have equivalent (or better?) skill / knowledge compared to someone that actually took the time to sit 3 A levels instead.
I would recommend 3 A levels if you have the choice.

Taking an HNC for entry into yr 1 of a degree could impact on your eligibility for funding/use your gift year of funding.
