GCSE Physics Question Help

Hi, please can you help me on these two questions?

For the first past paper im stuck on question 2 ( ii ) on the mark scheme it said that the distance to the epicentre is 1.6 -
On the second past paper on the last question , second last part of it, ( 9-(e) ) , i dont know how they got the answer and how they worked it out and why they did what they did.
