Bath or Bristol for maths

Hey, i am unsure whether I should firm bath or Bristol for maths. The rankings are basically the same except bath is better in the Uk overall. They both have placement but I’m unsure which one to firm. I also don’t know which ones more diverse which is a big factor for me. Campus life is also important to me which I can have in Bath

hiii, congrats on both offers! maybe have a think about whether you prefer a city or campus uni experience as bristol is very much a city uni and bath is much more campus orientated. Idk if thats good advice but I would say that is the main difference between the two if, as you said, academically they are similar. Best of luck!

Bath's placement options are brilliant - I'd firm Bath.

Do You think a city uni experience would be quite isolating ? This is one reason I’m thinking of not forming Bristol . Also do you know which ones social life is better ? Thanks guys for the replies really appreciate it

Tje entry requirements are much lower for Bath but it would be the same as going to my insurance grades wise so I’m not bothered about the grade side of it more so just which uni. I haven’t heard much ab the social life at bath

From what i have seen of Bath, its much smaller than Bristol but still very vibrant. I liked that its kinda the best of both worlds cause you have a campus experience as well as nights out in Bath and if you want a 'proper night out' trains, buses and coaches run to Bristol all the time, i think there is even a university run coach on some nights!

Bath Uni is smaller, cosier - this suits some people better
And its a specialist STEM Uni - Bristol isn't.

Hi there,

Deciding between universities is a tough decision as there are so many factors at play.
For starters I would recommend looking through the mathematics courses at each of the unis and see if you can find out the modules you will study and work you will produce. This may give you an insight into what you’re interested in as each university may have slightly different modules for the course.

Second you want to consider the learning environment for the courses. I cannot comment on Bristol, however Bath has a huge host of support for students including well-being services, financial support, student mentors, personal tutors etc, so whatever you may struggle with there will be support there to assist you through and ensure you are able to learn and perform at your best throughout the course so you get the most out of your degree.

There are also the great job prospects which follow. Bath has great connections to a lot of companies for both placement and graduate options and assist you a lot in finding a career during and post studies. The placement team offer a bunch of help including CV assistance, mock interviews and emailing companies to gather job opportunities. Bath has a great employability rate, so this is definitely a positive factor!

Furthermore, you want to consider outside the scope of academics and consider where you will be living for the year. It would be worth looking into what each of the cities have to offer such as aesthetic, night life, restaurants, supermarkets etc. Personally, Bath has been great in terms of things to do, super easy transport links between the city centre/student housing areas and the university. The nightlife is less than Bristol however there is usually always some type of social occurring and Bristol is only ten minutes on the train or 30 minutes on the bus if you wanted something livelier.

You also mentioned diversity is important to you. As a black student myself I also understand why this is a huge factor. I believe both universities are working towards increasing the diversity and I have Bath is making big strides in this direction. They have a lot of cultural groups for students of different backgrounds to meet and grow with each other, programmes such as target bath to encourage more minority students to study with Bath and throughout the year they advertise opportunities to all kinds of students such as the 10000 black intern’s programme.

Overall, you’ll want to consider all aspects of both universities. Good luck with your decision!
