The Student Room Group

My dad was just made redundant. Will this affect my maintenance loan?

When SFE look at my parents income in my application, will they consider his previous salary even though he is now unemployed? We don't know when he will find another job so even if they consider his old salary, can it be appealed?

Also - I'm 23 and have been working for more than 3 years. However I have not been paying rent/council tax etc for all of this time. This means I can't be classed as independent right?

Hi there, you can find out more information on applying as an Independent Student here: https://www.ucas.com/finance/student-finance-england/finance-independent-students

If the household income is expected to drop by 15% or more in 23/24 tax year in comparison to 21/22 tax year then your parents can complete the Current Year Income Assessment Form (CYI). They can find the form here: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1149325/sfe_cyi_form_2324_o.pdf

Once this has been reviewed the team will be in contact with you to confirm the funding you have been awarded. Thanks, Karen
