Migrant Worker Student Loan

Hello,

I've just heard back from SFE after applying for Migrant Worker Student Loan. SFE is asking for my father's employment history at the start of the academic year (1/09/2023).

However, my dad started working in October after a period of being unemployed therefore I only expect to get the maintenance loan from 2nd term onwards this year.

Do I qualify as a child of a migrant worker at all if my dad only started working In October? What should I do now, just send them a letter that I only expect maintenance loan from 2nd term onwards?

Thank you in advance,

Hi there,

Yes you would still be eligible to apply as a child of Migrant Worker if your dad started work in October. You are also correct you will not be eligible for the 1st term but you should be eligible for the 2nd and 3rd term. I would advise you to upload a cover letter explaining your dad was unemployed before the start of September and did not start working until October. You can also provide any payslips he has from October if you have not already sent them.

Thanks, Drew
