What University Services to Look out For

For many people, university is a place to make lifelong friends, gain experiences, obtain a great education and develop skills for employment. It might be daunting at the start, but university is also a place where you can access help and support at any point in your degree to ensure that you get the best experience that you can.

As a student at Swansea University, I can see first-hand how much the university prides itself on offering guidance and student-curated services to ensure that everyone who studies there has the best experience possible. Here are some of the university services that you should look out for:
1. CampusLife Support - https://www.swansea.ac.uk/campuslife/#our-vision=is-expanded

The CampusLife team at Swansea University offer support for a variety of different things such as money, faith, community and welfare. The team does this by providing a series of advice, guidance and support services that assist and empower students to achieve their highest educational potential; remove barriers to learning; strengthen readiness to learn; and sustain a safe and healthy Swansea University community.

2. Wellbeing and Disability Service - https://myuni.swansea.ac.uk/student-support-services/disabilities-and-long-term-conditions/

The Wellbeing and Disability Service is also importantly provided at Swansea University. The team is there to support students with any adjustments they might need. For example, they can advise liaise with academic departments if any adjustments need to me made to ensure a student can complete their studies to the best of their ability, or they can even liaise with other professional services across the University, such as the Accommodation Team, Transcription Centre, and Library Service, to support individual needs.  
3. The Swansea Employability Academy - https://www.swansea.ac.uk/sea/

Whether you are a current student or a graduate, the Swansea Employability Academy ensure that from the moment you start your university journey, you have all of the careers advise and employment opportunities available to you. The academy enables you to have the opportunity to engage with industry, take on placement opportunities and work experience, so that you are fully equipped for the world of work once you complete your degree.

A great benefit of the Academy is that they can help you through the whole process of searching for a part-time job or work experience. You can speak to a specialist careers adviser who can not only help you find an opportunity but can also help with the application by constructing your CV and cover letter with you. This one-to-one support is vital and very helpful, especially if you are new to job searching or just can’t seem to find the perfect work experience for you!

4. The Centre For Academic Success - https://www.swansea.ac.uk/academic-success/

The Centre for Academic Success is also a service offered by Swansea University to ensure that students get support in developing their academic study skills. They are ultimately there to ensure that you can bridge the gap between where you are as a student now, and where you would like to be. Through a series of courses, workshops and one-to-one tutorial, you can improve your writing, develop critical thinking skills, enhance your time-management, learn how to avoid plagiarism and much more. This asset of the university can give you further confidence in yourself and your ability.
The university ultimately endeavours to ensure that all students can get the most from their experience at Swansea. Swansea aims to continue to develop an inclusive and accessible environment to allow for every student to have their individual needs met. The most important thing to remember is that you should always seek advice or support whenever you need it, you don’t have to face any difficulties, big or small, on your own.
