Welcome to the TSR best (post-war) PM tournament!

This is Quarter Final 2

TSR is asking the question: Who is the best (post-war) UK Prime Minster?

We're holding a tournament of UK Prime Ministers and asking you to vote to determine which was the most significant in history. We have now reached the quarter finals of this tournament.

Check out the hub thread here to find the other quarter final threads, as well as future rounds once they're posted, and earlier rounds in case you're wondering who's already been knocked out.

The PMs in Quarter Final 2 are:

Tony Blair (Labour)

Tony Blair was Prime Minister from 2 May 1997 27 June 2007, ending 18 years of Conservative rule in the UK. Blair saw the introduction of a minimum wage, tuition fees for higher education, constitutional reform such as devolution in Scotland and Wales, an extensive expansion of LGBT+ rights, and significant progress in the Northern Ireland peace process with the passing of the landmark Good Friday Agreement. However, his role in the Iraq war led to a sharp drop in popularity, and his eventual resignation.

Margaret Thatcher (Conservative)

Margaret Thatcher was Prime Minister from 4 May 1979 28 November 1990, making her longest serving PM of the modern era, and the first woman to hold the position. Thatcher was a polarising figure in the 1980s when it came to economic and social policies, privatising industries and weakening unions. In foreign policy, Thatcher defeated Argentina in the Falklands War, and worked with Ronald Reagan to battle communism, but also promoted collaboration with Mikhail Gorbachev in ending the Cold War. The controversial poll tax led to her resignation.

Comparing Mrs Thatcher to Blair is like comparing the Magna Carta to a raspberry vape.

Mrs Thatcher broke the backs of the unions and brought Britain into the information age. She made ordinary people home owners, won a war against foreign aggression and stood firm against socialism at home and abroad.

Tony Blair is the progenitor of all the social ills we have today. He gave us the idea that people can be whatever they want, regardless of skill, talent or resource, and if they don't achieve their goals, it must be because of discrimination. He softened the image of the socialists and paved the way for the sickness of the soft left and cemented in place fetid institutions like the BBC and the European Union with their towers of filth. A man that always came across as lacking in intelligence but the ability to market his hollow dreams. The mobile phone salesman of politics.

You can vote for your preferred candidate in the poll (can help them get into the next round).
I'm not a fan of conservatism (this doesn't mean that I'll oppose every conservative belief and accept every progressive one) but equally not a fan of the fact that Blair decided to meddle with the Middle East because I'm getting sick of the west getting involved in other countries problems.

Maybe this is just ignorance from me though but can't seem to be able to vote for either candidate.

Tony Blair got Britain into an unwinnable war for the wrong reasons.

Mrs Thatcher won a war when sovereign territory of the Falklands was invaded by a hostile foreign power and protected British Overseas subjects.

Yeah I can't comment that much on either candidates but I'm not a fan of countries going to war in general or the west getting involved in other countries issues.
6 Vs 7, that's close.

I let spinny wheel decide who I voted for because couldn't really decide or back either PM.

Thats a nasty one. One was an egregious war criminal and the other tried to pauperise the entire country and wrecked our utilities..

Yeah I just let spinny wheel decide because of this.
The results are in:

:king1: Tony Blair
:king2: Margaret Thatcher

This means that Tony Blair will go to the next round and Margaret Thatcher has been eliminated.
The other QF rounds are open for voting, feel free to check them out and vote:
Quarter-final 3 (voting closes 12th July).
Quarter-final 4 (voting closes 12th July).
