[Golden Thread] What would you put in Room 101?

This is a Golden Thread. Join in with the discussion before 21st August to be in with a chance of winning a £50 Amazon voucher!

What seemingly minor thing makes your blood boil?
What everyday object would you banish to the deepest, darkest corner of hell? :mob:
Nothing is safe from our irrational hatred - even poor Postman Pat got banished to Room 101 in 1994!

So! If you had the chance, which three things would you send to Room 101? The more weird or controversial the better! Then be prepared to argue your case to the rest of TSR...

My own three things would have to be: sweetcorn (vile), golf (takes up so much of the countryside), and people who correct other people's grammar

If I was hosting then I'd be inclined to allow number two, but I think you're going to have to defend your position on student reps and carrots! Carrots are one of the best vegetables??

Carrots are just vile, I'd rather eat my parrot's green creamy turds than a carrot.

The reps are annoying for several reasons: they often give terrible, objectively incorrect procedural advice that I and other academics on here (like MR Wednesday) then have to unpick and correct

They all reply to the same posts saying the precise same things in slightly different ways. Once one person has covered the bases, there's no need to do this just shut up

They begin their posts with 'hi there' and it makes me want to vomit

But aside from that they're great. (I do actually like a couple of them)

Oh wow, I am now never going to be able to look at a carrot ever again without thinking of parrot turds. Did you have to say creamy??

Also feeling personally attacked because I have been saying "hi there" for years. So now I have no idea how to send emails anymore lol
People who crack their knuckles
People who talk loudly on the phone on public transport

They are creamy, well, if they're healthy

Email is different, I think. I still wouldn't use it, but it's more ok in an email than a forum post to me. I don't know why I feel that way but if I get chance, I'll have a think about it
Okay here it goes -

1. Beetroot
2. Snoring
3. Friends (the tv programme)
4. Big Bang Theory

I could go on but I'll leave it there for now!

The phone thing is a real pet hate of mine, too.

Okay I am going to deliberately avoid asking what it's like when they're not healthy!

Maybe "hi there" is a bit too... down with the kids?

Correct choice.

Oh it can go wrong in lots of ways but yes, let's not. Ha.

Maybe? I think it's a bit American and that might be why I have a bias against it. It does do my head in seeing 12 replies in a row beginning with 'hi there' or 'hey there', though.

public transport feels like a bit of a break from life where I can look out the window and people watch so when I hear someone being loud it's infuriating!

I've also noticed an uptick in older people (so my age and above, really) playing videos really loudly on their phones on the train. I don't often lose my rag but I feel my ears pop when this happens.

I am a knuckle cracker... :frown:
I can think of quite a few things I’d love to put in room 101.

I’ll start with that fcking GCSE RE paper I sat as a mock in year ten
People who walk slowly (excluding elderly, young children and those with disabilities which make them walk slowly)
AQA exam board (everything about them)
People who voted for "X" (X refers to something specific).
Sweet and Sour (mixed together) food.

"The more weird or controversial the better!" so sorry TSR, wouldn't normally post this kind of thing, but it is the thread after all.
People who play their music so loudly to the point that I can hear it is another one.
Lack of manners (a simple please/thank you is appreciated), loud talking in a confined space e.g. public transport, people who create a mess and just leave it for others to clean up.

Many things really but the overarching theme of thoughtlessness and selfishness!
1. Not using proper English in a formal setting
2. Walking directly in front of me when I'm walking
3. Closing the door but not latching it properly
