The Student Room Group

The Empire Strikes Back. De Vere Group!

So let me start from own side of things. I'm recent graduate from UCL with First Class. As a typical international student whose only goal is to please his parents( okay bit of an exaggeration) I really focused on getting my degree straight. But now I am left with no job opportunities whatsover. After finally sorting out my **** I am now applying for any job my sorry head can get to.

I found out De Vere Trainee position in Financial Advisory from Linked In. Was bit surprised by absence of 100+ applications there, my sorry head thought nothing of it and applied. A day passes and there is an invite to pre-recorded video interview stuff. I did this very casually, thought nothing of it, did not even research the firm at all. Because hey, they require pre-recorded interview right, so must be a decent firm.

Now I have been invited to a "webinar", about the role and the firm.
it is on tomorrow, 22nd of August 2023. As of this post, it is exactly 8pm 21st. Only now I decided to look up the firm. And oh boy!

Apparently, this is not technically chartered firm, it is a consultancy that withdraws money from the uk and puts it under the management of its subsidiaries overseas. Advisors are not even qualified. Trust Pilot reviews are horrible and riddled with stories how people lost their money and savings, intentionally deceiving their customers. Exorbitant fees and commissions and cases where savings were not even under management at all. Somehow, these questionable folks lost 10% over 10 years for some people. Like brother in christ how do you even manage to lose, you could 2x in 2020 alone by putting it on SP500.
FCA seems to want no part of this. Like wtf.

I have seen threads here dated 10 years ago, raising the same alarms lol. There are stories of people going and travelling to countries forced to make their accommodation getting paid nill. Salaries depend on commissions and many are cold-calling to pay their rent.

I got hysterical laughs when I saw Youtube channels. Oh god they are horrendous. Obviously inflated 1.1 mln views with 2!!!! comments.
(Nigel Green's youtube who is CEO of the De Vere). My brother in Christ did you forget to pay for comments as well lmfao.

Worst part of it all that there are people like me who really want to get some experience before moving out to US and getting masters( okay its an exaggeration) And they accept this kind of work, travel to Malta, make their own visas and subsist on 1500 EU. I just really want to remind you guys that first firm or experience is very important in setting up your standards. Do not do this. Go work for coffee carts or smth else, do not scam people. Doing morally questionable things is not worth your time.

I just really want to vent here. Hm, maybe I should do something about it. Like actually reaching out to FCA and report financial crime. This would be a great Youtube content after all. Stay alerts lads and lasses.
