Joint degrees for msc economics

I have noticed that for the quantitative/econometric heavy msc economics courses such as LSE’s MSc, there are many who have entered it from only joint economics degrees, often with social sciences like Oxford’s PPE (Ed Miliband and Virginia Bottomley are notable examples).
Does this mean that the door is open for joint degree students to specialise in a more quantitative field of the finance sector e.g. econometrics through a masters degree, provided they choose the right modules and study at unis that have quantitative heavy economics courses even in joint honours e.g. Oxford, Warwick, LSE?
