Sport and Exercise Science BASES accreditation

Hi, I am an International student planning on studying Sport and Exercise Science in the UK in 2024. I saw some courses do not have BASES accreditation, what does this mean please? Will it still be possible to move forward and get employment if a course is not accredited?
Thanks

Hi sport science grad here,
BASES- is the British association of sport and exercise sciences. If a course is accredited it mean it reaches their standards in terms of learning content and delivery, and upon graduation the grandaunt can be apply to be a BASES accredited sport and exercise scientist if the pay a fee- this helps with employability in the sport science sector in Britain, especially in more competitive jobs- depends in the field of sport science you want to go in for example sports psychology. You can still get a job in the field without the accreditation but it does massively help with boosting your cv and making you stand out.

thank you so much for your reply.
I do actually think that I would like to specialise in Sport Psychology after. I was surprised to see that Russel Group universities such as Uni of Birmingham do not offer accreditation. Is it hard to get accreditation after graduating if needed?

No once you’ve graduated you can get accredited I just believe it’s more than if your course was accredited but idk what the difference is. Also the course had additional benefits like additional available conferences from bases. Whilst I was offered a place at leeds, I went to uni of hudds which was bases accredited and I believe this may be because the course leader and a few of the lecturers are involved with bases and work closely with them for example the psych teacher did a lot of work with the England football team I believe. If you are considering sports psych I would recommend going more into a bcs sports psychology vs bcs sport science as it’s more general and likelihood you will need to do a masters- my brother is doing his undergrad in sport psychology; however if you want to keep your options broader and you’re not 100% sure on psychology I would recommend doing the sports sci degree- typically people completely change the mind than Their initial thoughts when completing the degree- I did! Hope this helps

thank you so much for your time. You were very helpful. Yes the reason I am choosing sport science is because I am not sure what I will decide to do later, want to keep some doors open
