Can your landlord stop your student finance payments?

I live in private student accommodation and in the contact it says that I’m allowed to leave if I give three months notice.

I talked to the person at reception (not landlord) about my reason for wanting to leave (I want to use the money for something else) and he said the landlord can call student finance, tell them I don’t live there and make them stop my last payment.

Is that a thing??

Anyone can notify SFE that a student has changed from living away from home to living at home. If that happens the SFE will normally ask for a rental agreement proving where you’re living. The loan available for living at home is lower than if you live away and you are required to notify SFE if your living arrangements change. If you live at home for terms 2 and 3 then your loan payments for those terms will be reduced.
