Suspension of studies VS Placement year

I am in Year 12 and am aiming to study integrated masters in mechanical engineering and doing a placement year. To my knowledge, requesting a suspension of studies between the third and fourth year is free but officially enrolling in a sandwich course costs a substantial amount of money during placement year[due to holding international fee status]. Can I technically request a suspension of studies between the third and fourth year with the aim of completing an industrial placement to avoid paying tuition during placement year? Thank you.
