Sports and Gym Facilities at Kingston

While at university it's a perfect time to take up a new hoppy and learn a new skill. Kingston has lots of sports societies that you can join and great facilities and spaces where these activities take place. Sport is a great way to take a break from university work and can even help you feel and be more productive. I am going to break down some of the facilities Kingston has to offer.

Gyms

-Fitness Centre at Penrhyn Road Campus
Memberships for students: £16 a month off-peak and £21 for a full membership.
Opening Times: Monday-Thursday 7am till 10pm, Fridays 7am till 8pm and on the weekend 10am till 5:30pm.

The universities gym offers one of the cheapest memberships and is ideal for those studying at Penrhyn Road and Knights Park to go to the gym after lectures.

-Pure Gym and The Gym Group
Membership prices for students (Pure Gym): A standard membership is £25.99 a month but you can get 30% off your first 6 months with UNIDAYS.
Membership prices for students (The Gym Group): A 9 month student membership that you pay upfront for £249 and UNIDAYS offers 25% currently off a 9 month membership. Or there is the standard membership for £25.99 a month and a off-peak for £22.99.
Opening Times: 24/7
Location: Both located on Adams Walk opposite each other in Kingston town centre.
Distance from Middle Mill, Knights Park, and Penrhyn Road Campus: 10-minute walk.
Distance from Seething Wells and Clayhill: 30-minute walk (bus options also available).

These gyms are good to join if there is one in your hometown too as you can then have access to both the gym when you’re at uni and when you go home. Always make sure to look out for offers and deals as there are usually some sort of promotional offer for these gyms.

Tolworth Sports Ground
This is one of the main sports facilities at Kingston. So many societies train and hold matches here, such as American Football, Netball, Football, Rugby and Tennis. It has lots of outside sports facilities including floodlit training areas. Plus, a sports pavilion with changing facilities, showers, a café, bar, and terrace. Students can usually go here and watch the Kingston Teams compete on game days.

Sports Partnerships
Kingston has many partnerships with facilities and spaces all around Kingston to allow sports societies to use the top equipment and spaces they need. I personally am a member of the cheerleading sports society and so I have training every week at Tiffin School Sports Centre where they have a big hall and mats that we can use. I also know that Taekwondo, Men’s Futsal and Cricket also practices there. Kingston College is also a space where clubs like Basketball and Badminton often practice. Then there are partnerships with places like Kingston Rowing Club, The Malden Centre with Kingston Royals Swimming club, Surbiton Hockey Club and many more places that students can access. The best place to find out where the society you want to join will be training is on the Kingston Student Union website A-Z of Sport Clubs @ Union of Kingston Students or alternatively most societies have a social media page on Instagram that will give this information.

Any questions feel free to ask
