Mental Health Nursing

Hi

I’m considering restarting my education journey and doing a second degree in Mental Health Nursing. If at all possible, please could I get help on what funding is available and what isn’t?
Thanks!

Hey, :wavey:

As you want to study Mental Health Nursing extra financial help is available in the form of a grant of at least £5000 per academic year (subject to government review for subsequent years). This grant is called the 'NHS Learning Support Fund' and is for healthcare students who are starting courses in England.

However, i am unsure if you will be eligible as this is your second degree. I would check out the website: https://www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/nhs-learning-support-fund-lsf to see if you will be eligible.

If you're eligible you can get:

A training grant of £5,000 per academic year.

Parental support of £2,000, if you have at least one dependent child under 15 years old, or under 17 years if registered with special educational needs.

Money back for excess travel and temporary accommodation costs (Travel and Dual Accommodation Expenses) while you're on your practice placement.

Students experiencing financial hardship (Exceptional Support Fund).

I hope this helps and you are able to find out the answers that you need.

You should get full student finance, so full tuition fee and the maintenance loan your entitled to (its different for mature students and so hard to find info on)
Plus obviously government dependant youl get 5k nhs grant, plus 1k mh specialism. Then any exrras like child care if you have kids ect.
So currently as a mature student i get 12k maintenance loan a year plus 6k nhs grant a year.

Helpful reply x same position. Were you assessed on your own income for maintenance or do you have a partner earning? This seems to be my shortfall to full entitlement.

Same position as you. Older, two young children, former career does not interest me at all and am in process of applying for mental health and have my interview in a couple of weeks. So much to think of to make the change but really dedicated to it as want to join the field. What’s your position? Have you started applying? Don’t worry - we don’t seem to be alone. Have met quite a few lovely people who seem to have taken the leap too!
