I know a language would be extremely useful, in my case i'd have to take french, im just concerned that it will be too much for me :P
im considering chemistry, biology, History and Psychology atm, but
french, politics and maths are at the back of my mmind :s-smilie: what do u think are th best ones? x

Maths would be very useful, and as others have stated - a language. Languages do require lots of hard work, especially if you're not a natural linguist though.

Perhaps: Chemistry/Biology, History, Maths and French?

I work for the "civil service" as we call it.

Theres no specific qualification, it depends as with all jobs on what you want to specialise in.
I'm a translator, because I'm good with languages, having being bilingual since being a very young child (english and ukrainian) + I can speak french and russian fluently.
Totally depends on what you want to do within the service, its an organisation like any other, and a myriad of different positions.

Don't lie.

I'm going to quote you out of context because it is actually good advice. Do not lie on your application, you will be culled immediately.

The qualification and associated website are real, you just need to find it.

An A-level in common sense.

Seriously, though, I imagine any 'academic' qualification will be good enough, unless you're going for a specific job.
Depends what you want to do for the intelligence services... do you want to be an operator, officer, field worker, IT technician, secretary, HR....?

Hiii, picking my A Levels at the moment

want to work for MI5 or MI6, what A Levels do you advise I should take??

tyx:smile:

If you really wanted to work for them, you would have done your research and know that they don't like taking on applicants who have made their intention to apply know to anyone beyond parents/siblings/partners.

And if you have any secrets (closet homosexual/criminal history/drug use) you can kiss working there goodbye. They won't take on anyone who could be blackmailed.

In answer to your question - anything that shows you can think for yourself and that you are resourceful. So english, philosophy, religious studies, history, psychology. What you specialise in at degree level and what skills/trades you pick up are more important than A Level choices.
I'd say at least two foreign languages, mathematics and eng lit/Hhistory

Well it is quite secret, they only let potential MI5ers look at it and take the exam... even the invigilators are sworn to secrecy...

If you knew anything about the Intelligence Services you would have read on their website that is says "if you tell anyone about your application to work for MI5/6, besides your immediate family, your application could be compromised"

I'd say Chem, History, Maths, French - all very well respected subjects. I'd really recommend Politics A-level, but I don't think it's really looked upon as favourably as History, despite actually being the same amount of work.

Listing A-level subjects is superfluous as applicants will be required to attend an assessment center where they use their own tests. There isn't a list of acceptable subjects. As has already been said, a language A-level would be most useful but even then you need to be fluent in your chosen language, so an A-level isn't that impressive in this context. I'm fully aware that this is a student website but people need to get out of the disposition of thinking it's a UCAS application.

Study whatever A-levels you like.

Really? Because your numerous posts in the UWE forum about your unconditional offer for Journalism beg to differ  .

whats your point?

yes, i'm going to UWE next year.

And? I just dont understand how that justifies accusing me of things like that.
Anyway, lets not let this disrupt the flow of the thread, if you have an issue, PM me, but i'd be more than happy to fill you in on my job.

And you claimed that you were currently working for MI5 as a translator and that you spoke 4 different languages fluently.

Aside from the fact that you would be sacked instantly for saying that you did..
