I applied for PhysNatSci and I already had my interview. I'm sad because even if they accept me its way too expensive for an international student

That's a real shame... but there are plenty of grants even for international students I believe.. Also MIT, Harvard, and arguably even St Andrew's will all be more expensive.. I reckon if you get an offer you should go as far as selling your soul to the devil to make ends meet... Failing that you have got a spare kidney and lung which you could sell on for a tidy sum.. (sorry I shouldn't kid you about this... - it really would be a terrible thing to get an offer and not be able to go for that reason...:frown: )

Harvard an MIT give out HUGE sums of money and there is a full scholarship at St. Andrews just for Canadians so I'm hoping for that. MIT and Harvard aren't high on my list of places I want to go, so even if I cant go due to money, I wont be devastated. Cambridge, however, is a dream for me. Oh well, there's still post-grad studies I could do there.

I am applying for music. Interview on 15th Dec.

Out of interest, those of you who have had interviews already, did you have a gen interview with Dr Bowkett and what did this entail?
I had a general interview with Dr. Bowkett, but because I'm a prospective scientist and he is a scientist, I got some subject-specific questions. He was really welcoming but he seemed to think that French was a dying language (I mentioned I'm fluent). Overall, a really easy-going and friendly interview.

Sounds promising

I wonder if he knows much about music...

I applied for biological NatSci. My interviews are on 27th November - two subjects interviews and a general one. What sort of questions were you asked at the general interview?

Woah...Interesting insight - he'll probably mention that then when he interviews me (i'm applying for French and Spanish). Can you ellaborate a little on the things he asked about French? Also about other general questions that he asked? (ie was there anything like: what was the last book you read etc? Or why Christ's? Why Cambridge?)...
Nope, no why Cambridge or anything, though I shouldn't say too much more on a public forum. I recommend that you dont get offended if he says something about french, it would not do.

I'm applying to Christ's  Biological natsci applicant here, and STILL no interview. Am a wee bit nervous they may have forgotten about me even though I'm supposed to be having an interview here in Hong Kong around the 28th of November.

Also, I'm dubious about the subject interviews - I haven't taken biology at all. Yeah, I applied for natsci (bio) so I could specialise into Psychology.

sorry in advance for sounding imprudent, but how did you not get into cambridge the last time you applied?- your grades look so impressive that i can't imagine any level of muck-up interview-wise denting your application...

good luck in any case with this year!

Well at Cambridge the interview is everything unfortunately. I very much mucked up my French interview (partly due to it being the first interview in the morning after quite literally no sleep...but now I'm just making excuses for myself..). My Spanish interview on the other hand went really well and at the end of it I got pooled by Emmanuel. Last year however I did not have the AEA in French - and I hadn't got an A in AS History after quite spectacularly mucking up the Hitler module, and my GCSE's are below average (although I doubt these factors were decisive). My personal statement looking back on it was a naive bunch on simpering bull**** which I'm ashamed to have presented to Cambridge. This year I just have to concentrate on not duffing up the interview...

Anyway thanks for the encouragement

hmm I'm not sure.. I'm also dubious as to how much preparation helps - i've done the reading...thought about the books.. - but I really don't think filling my mind with loads of facts and quotes is going to help my cause.. So i'm going to try to relax and contemplate rather than study furiously over the next few days... I'm more confident than last time around. How about you?

With preparation I don't mean learning all possible questions off by heart, rather like you said reading the books mentioned in the ps,etc.
Until my interview I will go through my ps, start reading the three books i mentioned, and concentrate on reading newspapers.

does everyone has an interview with dr bowkett, or just some, selected randomly?
Reply 58
As a preparation, I'm reading two books and I'm going to read the last "Nature" issue as soon as I get to London. I've revised biology and I hope I'll manage to learn the necessary scientific vocabulary until my interview- I've never studied any subject in English. I have a general interview with Dr. Bowkett too - looks like all the Christ's applicants do.

Did you go by train to Cambridge? How can I get to the college from the train station? And how long does it take?

I think most general interviews are conducted by Dr Bowkett as he's the Admissions Tutor for Christ's..
