Apparently wordpress.com accounts are more professional so I'm switching

Wordpress was originally open-source, therefore web designers and programmers are allowed to download the software and customise it freely on their own server/website. Obviously, you need to know what you're doing (largely in regard to database implementation for installation and CSS (stylesheets) to create your own design/themes.

LCF used Wordpress and tied-in the existing design for the UAL website:

http://www.fashion.arts.ac.uk/ma2009/

Chelsea also recently started their own blog on the same line:

http://www.chelsea.arts.ac.uk/snapshot/

I suspect they will allow individual logins for students, whereby you will have your own blog, similar to those above, for your own work. Then again, most prefer to use Blogger because it's easy to use and most students aren't that savvy with web design/programming.

I must admit the whole layout of wordpress is quite mindboggling. Perhaps I'll just stick to what I know

I wasn't referring to Wordpress.com, that's relatively easy to use and is similar to Blogger, in some respect. I was referring to installing the Wordpress blogging software on your own server/host and creating your own design and/or theme (not any of the templates they offer for you). Doesn't matter, this is not something you need to know about unless you're interested in web development. :giggle:

The reason why I say 'web development', not 'web design', is because most web designers are only responsible for the actual 'design' of the website, whereas I'm also referring to the programming aspect, hence the industry term to refer to both collectively is 'web development'... I'm not sure they teach you this during the foundation, or at least, not the programming aspect. Chelsea is very conceptual, less on the technicalities of the craft (similar to CSM). Most of your technical learning will happen through workshops or on your own. Anyway, it's best to take one step at a time.

It's really weird this thread popped up as on the day, I was starting to make a blog. I'm gonna use either tumblr or wordpress because I want to customize it a lot, but it will be more of a record of my work and where I travel. Might use it as a portfolio site since I do web design, not quite sure yet!

Ooh, you've followed some of my friends as well, Ate. Eat. Tea. is my house mates and its really good to look at if you're going to an arts university next year, she's very hard working and does everything that someone studying art should do.

Awwh cool.
Her blog is really good, I'm rather jealous of it haha.
I'm wanting to do fine art at chelsea, got my interview on friday.
If not my second choice is UEL.

Any tips for the interview?

Absolutely no tips I'm afraid,I don't go to Chelsea, I go to LCC (part of the same uni),I'm not artisticly inclined in the slightest, all I do on my course is write essays and stories and I never had an interview.

A friend of mine goes there now for foundation though, um, I guess he got in because he was not only quite talented but showed a great deal of interest in art, its history and the ideas and concepts behind it.

A lot of the people I know at Chelsea, and at arts london in general are incredibly ideas based so I'm guessing that a lot of research and knowledge and execution of ideas is going to look good in any portfolio.

Having said that, a lot of people I've seen at chelsea are absoloutely talentless, so its anyones game really. G'luck

Thanks I'm going to need it.

I might not even get the interview.
What they're doing is looking at your portfolio then if they like it you get an interview.
I've never been so nervous before.
