80k!? Are you serious? That strikes me as a little too high. 30k for a qualified doctor sounds about right. They shouldn't get more than teachers.

Why? No disrespect to teachers (it's a hard job, and one that I couldn't do), but do you honestly think they have it as hard? When was the last time a teacher did a night shift? And what about the emotional aspect to the job, do teachers have to face death on a daily basis? Stand by helplessly as a pt with a DNAR dies?

to pay off the student loan as an english teacher then you would be paying it back for (i would imagine, being scottish) about 20 years at 30k a year

also, teachers arent on-call overnight (exempt in boarding schools) and they dont get spat on/puked over/have to take a rectal exam
too much

lol jokes- ask the medicine section- i'm not sure but i think its in bands

I know a GP (partner in surgery) who earned £180K before tax a couple of years ago. Fulfilled all of their quotas and generally worked their asses off etc.

My brother earns around £50-60K and he's a registrar (anesthetics) in London.

I've heard most doctors enjoy rectal examinations. Also, teachers have to do marking.

Not enough.

I think 80% of a professional footballer's pay cheques should be transferred to them to be honest...

You think doctors who work long, emotionally and physical tiring hours filled with facing illness and death shouldn't be paid more than teachers? (Im not belittling teachers careers here btw, if anything they should be paid more)

I dont think the pay is unreasonable, especially when you consider the debt gained on a 5 year course coupled with the removal of banding in alot of juniour posts.

**** off, obvious troll. Hopefully your ban will be swift.
doctors shouldn't get the same or less than teachers- doctors are sepcialists in their career, working with rather unpleasent situations and the general public daily- and are also 'teachers' in the way they need to explain issues, health promotion and students

I'd love to have seen a teacher on 30k in my old school who did anything but sign the register and sit there whilst people threw rubbers at my head.

5/6 years at university, 2 foundation years then the rest to complete training, and they don't deserve more than 30k, when David Beckham probably just spent that on a haircut?

All I can say is: My God.

30k for that...

ffs nurses get less than that
they get paid too much, if they truely want to help people they wudnt be in the UK they'd be in africa etc.
I have read about Doctors, who after following all the government targets and taking no holiday, manage to get 150k+ in rare cases. As either a GP or top consultant.

WHOA HOA HOAAA THEN

We'd better give them another 20K then, and take it out of the wage of a doctor.

So how much do you think a lawyer's worth then? 30K too?

And surely, a football player should earn £2 an hour.
Can everyone just stop feeding the troll?

people do need help in the uk too....

plus many HCP do go on trips to places like africa, eg on electives etc- for example my mentor spends 7 weeks a year in kenya

marking? unless you are one of those teachers that sets each class a 2000 word essay each week then it isnt too bad. at least at my old school, sciences hardly ever gave homework that needed marked and maths was formal once a week. languages, well 180 word essay once a week isnt too bad and history/english were anything between 2 essays per term and one a fortnight (one a fortnight would not be a long one)

so realistically school finished at 4 and marking was done by 5:30 every night for most teachers (and i went to a good school)

judging by some of the stories ive seen on here, rectal's arent a doctors favourite examination to do
