Glasgow Accomodation

I love socialising, partying and the thought of catching a bus to morning lectures horrifies me. Although not a deal breaker, catering would be a plus. Bearing all that in mind, what's the recommended hall for someone like myself?

Don't go catering. The only catered hall is way out and mainly has vet students and isn't really all that social.

Go for Murano or Cairncross or Queen Margaret, all walking distance.

This might be a slight OT, but I didn't want to start another thread, so sorry about that.. I'll be visiting UoG's applicant's and since I'd love to stay for a few days, to get a look around the city,... I'm looking for a reasonably priced place to stay. Could you guys recommend anything? I've never been to Scotland, let alone Glasgow, so I'd be grateful for any advice. Thanks

Decent mix, mainly home students. Reflects the university's composition fairly well.

There's a youth hostel at Park Circus, some five minutes from the university.
How far away is the Firhill Court accommodation from the Dental Hospital?

Thanks.

I read on this that mostly peolpe talk about QM and Murano. But what about Firhill? You get a membership for GU sports? and its an ensuite? walking sitance from Murano so walking distance from all the parties whilst giving you quite time when you need it?
Basically what is Firhill like from your experiences?

Glasgow only started renting blocks at Firhill this year, which is why there's not much talk about it. From looking at the company who run the site on Facebook, there's not many good reviews, however they have sites all over the UK, so they might all be different. It was recently renovated, so that's a plus. Can't give you any experiences as i'm only starting this year, but Firhill is my second choice
Hi everyone.

I should go to Glasgow University starting this September (unconditional offer but still waiting for other universities).
I will be studying an LLM and it seems postgraduate accomodation is limited to a couple of halls. Is this list really enforced? Or can I just decide to live in QM or Murano (which seem way better)? Just to clarify, I am a party/social guy. I still work when required though!

Thanks!

Hi, a group of my friends and I, 4 in total, are looking to live in the west end together for the 2014-2015 year. We're aware that most flats are going to be vanishing fast, but can't find anything at all online, only very small flats or flats miles out of town. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to find a flat that will suit without trawling through craigslist-style sites with dodgy listings??

Thanks for any help anyone can offer

Honestly there's no need to worry, flats will only just be starting to come onto the market really, keep looking over next few months and you'll find something.
Hey,

I'm an English student and I visited Glasgow Uni in September but can't really remember what the halls are like. I can't decide between QM or Murano.

What would you guys suggest??
hey guys!
ive got a question concerning the application for accomodation; can you actually apply for halls without having heared back from all your ucas choices? (or having at least put down glasgow as firm/insurance choice?)
i checked out the online application form and tried to register with my ucas number etc. but it kept saying "student record not found".
also, whats the deadline for applications for halls? some of my choices really do take their time with sending offers/rejections and i dont want the long wait to get in the way of me securing a place in halls.

thanks in advance
oh man, really want to go into murano halls but it's a little too costly...£106 a week?! daaamn

You won't be able to apply for accommodation until at least 72hrs after you accept Glasgow as you firm choice.

btw. where is everyone applying to? I can't decide :frown:
So you can't apply for accomodation if Glasgow ends up being insurance choice?

As far as I'm aware, no.
If Glasgow is your insurance, you can only apply after you fail to meet the conditions of your firm choice

ohh actually never heared of firhill. whats it like? might have to check that one out, thanks for letting me know.
murano and QM are both very interesting. murano is the largest residence and sounds like its great for going out and meeting people (though im sure you will have a great time wherever you end up being). i think my top choice will be QM though, mainly because its en-suite
