That's good, good luck for your interviews, let us know how you get on. I haven't heard anything yet 😞. I didn't send my application of that long ago, just have to sit tight I guess 😊

I've been really looking forward to applying to LD Nursing, but i've read in various places that LDNs are in demand, but have also been warned by a few that there aren't many jobs in it after. It's quite worrying as it's the only branch I REALLY want to do! I've been advised a few times to do MH instead, and although it interests me, it doesn't as much as LD. What to do? Just go with it? I want to apply this year for 2015 entry, and am currently doing an access course. I've seen a couple of LD Nursing/Social Work integrated degrees which seem like a way to possibly go? Any thoughts?

Hey yea I've been told the same thing, how it's hard to get a job in that field and how learning disability an mental health are the same so mental health would be better. I've done placements with mental health and learning disability, I definitely love LD more. If LD is what you want to do then definitely go for it. 😊

If LD nursing is what you want to do then go for it. I have heard the same from loads of people but if you look at all the universities employment rates after qualification they are all pretty high. Well the ones I have seen are anyway. There are only about 750 places to study LD nursing a year throughout the whole country. Also my mum is an LD nurse and did her training over 30 years ago and she said people were saying the same then and ever since and she has never known any good LD nurse have any problems getting a job. I hope people don't put you off if it's what you really want.

I have spoke to people from RQIA & CQC amd they have all said they are crying out for people specialised in l.d. I keep looking at jobs for it and find loads. There's no reason why you shouldn't be employed afterwards. I want to specialise in it and I wouldn't let anyone put you off. I find some just want to go for the easy option. Working with l.d and m.h means more challenging behaviour and more tricky scenarios, but that to me means twice the reward
Go for it, if you want it!

I was unsuccessful at Sheffield Hallam which was disappointing as it was my first choice but hopefully I'll get my second choice x

Has anybody read this yet?

Just in case anybody was worrying... there's going to be a massive surge in the demand for l.d nursing.
Approx 1.5 million in uk have a l.d yet theres only 20,339 l.d nurses.
That's something that needs addressing!

I'm hoping to get into Sheffield Hallam. I'm applying this year for next year entry. Learning Disability Nursing & Social Work dual degree is the one I want to get onto! I think the dual qualifying aspect is really good, not only to make the course more interesting, but to give more opportunities after. You'd also get an even better aspect of multidisciplinary team working which is fab.

I've finally found a learning disability related thread! I was beginning to think I was the only one on here applying for LD nursing. Has anyone I'm here been for any interviews yet? If so how did ye get on? (:

Wow that's good going! Congrats on that, we're you interviewed by an actual learning disability nurse? A few people told me it would just be an adult nurse who would be doing the interviews.
