Hi @Cherrelle9

Hopefully we can help! 🙂

What Nursing course are you interested in studying? As you'll probably already know, we offer Adult, Mental Health, Learning Disability and Children's Nursing. More information on each of our degrees can be found here: https://www1.chester.ac.uk/nursingandmidwifery.

Each programme is 3 years long and you pay student fees and get a maintenance loan, the same as other students. However, because the course is time intensive (you work 40 hour weeks when on placement), this impacts your time to earn money in a part-time job and therefore Nursing students are also eligible for a £5000 bursary from the NHS each year.

The programmes are made up of 50% theory and 50% practice. You have blocks of time dedicated to modules with academic assignments and then blocks of time on placement learning alongside Nursing teams in hospitals and community settings. The practice is credit bearing, so this does count towards your degree, and your assessments scores are based on a report from a Nurse who you work with on each placement (called your practice assessor). You can click on the link above to find the course you are interested in, on the course page scroll down to the 'Learning' section and this gives you a breakdown of what to expect in terms of modules, workload and assessments across the 3 years.

You could also chat to one of our current Nursing students online as they would be able to give you a good idea of their experience on the course, including the practicalities of campus based learning and placements. Head to our Unibuddy platform and filter to Health and Social Care under Subject Area, to find our Nursing students - https://www1.chester.ac.uk/ask.

If you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask!

Best wishes,
Becky
