Private Candidate!

So, thanks to a less than adequate school combined with a poor mental health and a disability, I left school with basically nothing and now I'm ready to try and get those coveted five GSCEs.

Maths and English have been achieved (hopefully, either way, it's easy to get those done after you've left), but unfortunately I still need a further three to even think about A Levels.

I've made the decision to self-study French, German and possibly Biology, but the difficult thing is finding an institution that will take me on as a private candidate. I had one in mind but it doesn't take students who need to do coursework of spoken assessments, the latter of which is pretty important for language courses of course.

So, I'm slinging this post up here in hopes that anyone has any suggestions of places that might take me on? I live in Coventry, so the closer the better, but I have good transport links and access to a car so I can travel on exam days. I'm still trudging through the list phoning up and asking, but I figured while I did that I may as well post here!

Thanks, guys! :h:

It is really just a question of phoning up schools and asking them. It is getting harder and harder to find exam centres, and finding ones for French and German will be even more difficult. Are there any schools with specialist language status near you? They might be more accommodating. I did a French IGCSE as a private candidate but nowhere near Coventry, I'm afraid.

What is your end goal? You don't need 5 GCSEs to go to university, English and Maths (and maybe a science if you want to study science at degree level) is all you need, plus a level 3 qualification (A levels, an Access to HE course, BTEC etc).

That's what I figured ;-; There's a language college round the corner from me actually, completely forgot about them!

My end goal is to do German Studies and then move onto a degree in Translation. Unfortunately, the 6th form I've got my eye on for my A Levels doesn't accept BTECs and want's five GCSEs to get in so that's why I'm aiming for so five :\ Plus I need the A levels since they're equivalent to the German Abitur.

I'm making a list at the moment of the suggestions on the AQA site and I'm going to look up language schools nearby 9thanks for suggestion that, totally forgot that!)

You can take most IGCSE, including IGCSE French and German at "Tutors and Exams in Coventry"- google their website. Edexcel and CIE ( Cambridge ) both do MFL IGCSEs and T and E do the oral exams too
