What excites you the most about starting uni? [Golden Thread]

In case you didn't know, university is just around the corner - as if the countdown on the home page for Results Day wasn't bad enough :colone:

Let's focus on what excites you about the thought of university. For myself it was definitely the thought of independence :excited: Although being away from my parents has made me appreciate them 100% more, I miss being away from them now!

But hold on a second, I may have forgot to mention a certain something...

Freedom within my own living quarters. I'll be able to deal with my mess appropriately and be in charge of my own schedule instead of having my parents complain about how things get done now.
I'm looking forward to (hopefully) making some proper friends, not fake ones like I had in school and college who didn't actually care about me

You deserve a rep for being the first one to comment!! I hope you win now :colone:

But that's how I felt  My parents were getting on my nerves more and more, but then you realise why they nagged so much after a few weeks

You definitely will - I feel like I've made some life friends, especially those that I lived with and continued to live with in second year  Everyone feels a lot more mature too!

I definitely agree with you there, for me the build up to university was all about the independence. Knowing that I'd moving away and be able to live independently was a fantastic thought! That, and starting my course!

IM LOOKING FORWARD TO ESCAPING MY PARENTS. They are the most judgemental and picky people on the planet, :frown:

Ill probably appreciate them more if I have time away from them
Moving out. My own space.
Studying my course, making new friends and gaining independence.

Independence and meeting new people!
In truth I was at a stage in life where, after A-levels, I didn't really want to go to uni. I didn't feel ready for moving out or properly growing up and didn't really know what to expect, but off I went. After the first few weeks I wanted nothing more than to go home but I stuck it out and am quite happy with everything I've done leading up to doing a placement year (which started a month ago and it's going quite nicely).

I didn't get a great set of second year results and have already calculated multiple times what I need to achieve to get the different classifications and some of the third year modules honestly look (at a glance, at least) like the most interesting ones out of all the years so I'm excited to get back and hopefully (but not too realistically) end up with a 1st, given a lot of poor performances. I also plan to study ahead on two modules that I have notes for from around 1-2 months before uni starts to try and get as high a grade as possible, so I'm kind of excited about finishing off my final year though I don't really want the experience to end.

I'm an only child, so it sounds sad but I can't wait to live somewhere where I actually have people around me that I can talk to and chill with.
The optimism in this thread disturbs me. I will post when I actually get the grades for uni.

Update : I actually got into uni

If I ever make it to uni :moon:
Learning interesting stuff and the 4th year research project just sounds like the awesomest thing :yep:
Just generally being able to focus on something you're really into appeals a lot to me
I know I have another year until uni...

But my potential course (Translation (and Interpreting)) that I want to do because it's much more specialised than what I'm doing right now, plus there are exciting opportunities like the year abroad (3rd year)

Also being independent and making new friends (hopefully long-term or even for life)
