Is Jeremy Corbyn a hippie in disguise?

The guy lives on cloud nine. Thinks the world is all sunshine and rainbow. Needs to get real.

This guy achieved two Es at A-level and couldn't even complete a degree in trade unions at a polytechnic university. Do people seriously think someone that retarded could run a whole country?

When I think of hippies, I don't think of the rather tiresome dorks that are considered hippies today. I think more of the kids in the 60s who were out for a good time, who loved freedom, and who quite successfully fought for a number of worthwhile civil rights causes. These guys stood very bravely against the utterly idiotic Vietnam war, and the genuinely terrible treatment of blacks, and they did it all while high, tripping, wild, and shagging anyone they wanted.

Corbyn represents the rather presbyterian, puritanical side of the left. It's worth remembering that the real Puritans with a capital P were essentially left-wing in their political ideas. All that stuff like the Puritans and the Calvanists originated from the Protestant Reformation, and its Lutherans and then the Anabaptists who believed in getting rid of big corporations and private land. People like Corbyn are essentially the modern day versions of these people. He doesn't drink or smoke he just sits around eating vegatables and feeling that the world is a very terrible place.

I don't remember the definition of "hippie" being a bad thing, sounds far better than crooks over on the opposite bench to me.

Harsh generalisation on Corbyn for not having the most prolific background, but he is very well educated and indeed a clever man. As long as you talk about him, you are still generating enough publicity to make him relevant. 🤔

To be honest, I used to think he was a fruitloop but after watching QT with Owen Smith and him, he's actually a pretty intelligent, fair, guy. I don't really want Labour in at the moment, though. I'm happy with May.

Haha 😂😂😂 true but there's this thing where you warm up to him. I dunno maybe him not looking like the guy that is gonna hurt someone physically or their feelings.

To be fair, I just thought he sounded very grounded. He's levelled. I think he should have been much stronger on his remain position in the referendum but I like the fact that he didn't manipulate his staunch beliefs for the sake of playing the political game.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I didn't think the cohorts on his side of the House were entirely whiter than white and complete paragons of virtue.

Corbyn is on an ideological crusade that is clearly popular with many. However, importantly, many is relative and there aren't enough who think like him to give him a hope in hells chance of gaining power.

That seems a contradiction, his staunch belief is against the EU (just look at his 30 year voting history)

Firstly i think we should attack his policies and his character, not his education level. Two E's or not, he was intelligent enough to be in politics by about 25 and become leader of one of the two main parties. If you assume he's thick then all your really doing is underestimating your opponent and that will come back to haunt you.

With that being said, your essentially right. Corbyn's beliefs are more or less out of the Green Party playbook and though he waters some down to the level of a pretty extreme social democrat, i'd expect that in his mind he probably does truly believe in state control of the means of production and abhorrent levels of taxation (i.e. socialism). The only positive thing is that i've not yet see him suggest the abolition of property rights (communism).

Just remember that as intelligent or grounded or even reasonable in policy he may sound (though i disagree), that this is a man who hates the historic foundations of this nation and that the price you will pay for going after the rich or nationalising the trains is the loss of the monarchy, the union and our affiliation with NATO because in Corbyn's mind it's not enough that he needs to make the world a more equal place, he absolutely hates what Britain stands for and that in many ways makes him more dangerous than the average lefty who may simply want to fight capitalism.
