MechEng at Oxford
Im applying to Oxford to do mech eng.
a lot of tutors at school, think southampton is a better uni for engineering(i would do aeronautics and astronautics there)
Am i likely to get jobs in the US as easily with a degree from southampton, as oppsed to a degree from Oxford?
Any comments on the MechEng Oxford Course?

I kid.
Um well university wise Oxford is known pretty much world-wide so I doubt you'd have a hard time getting a job anywhere.
But if you're thinking about doing mech eng there it'd be quite hard as Oxford only do a general course for the first 2 years then you specialise in the last 2.
But on the other hand Southampton is known for it's amazingness in engineering in the UK...but if you were thinking about going to America, then maybe going to a more...international university would be better for your aspirations.
But for all I know american engineers could rate southampton very highly.
Sorry I'm just going round in circles aren't I?

i didn't think southampton was rated that highly for mechanical engineering (in comparasion to the likes of bristol and imperial)
oxford will open doors in most places due to its prestige, however its a specialist and it will be more broad at oxford until the last years

You will probably find that the general make up of a Mech Eng course is not that dissimilar to the General Eng course at Oxford. The first two years of the Oxford course is largely dominated by the core material that you will encounter in a Mech Eng course. People who wish to choose between Elec Eng and General Eng will see a much bigger difference.
