Thanks - wow, that's a very hefty week for you. Are you a Parkrunner?

Yes, agreed. Competition always helps one to run better, I'm looking forward to college/university trials, if only because it will aid my PB chances.

My nearest park run is about 45 minutes away both here and at uni. I sometimes hate how far I am from anywhere.

Oh, that's infuriating - sorry about that. :console: So when's your nearest competition?

I've not competed for about 8 years but I hope to do the Lancaster 1/2 marathon early November. I'm not particularly fast yet though.
13K along the river. Nowhere near as muddy as i remember it being.
Anyone got any examples of dynamic stretches? I was on a course and these got mentioned but i've only ever done static stretches I mean i've seen people doing like slow lunges but what else is there?

Knee ups and heel flicks, lunges as you said and things for your arms like windmilling your arms.

Just bought a cap to protect me from the sun and some random tree branches from poking my eyes; hope it doesn't damage my hair though :ninja:

I wish I needed a cap to protect me from the sun :P
Running is very good exercise to get healthy and fit. I am running 1 hours daily cause I want to lose my thigh fat and belly fat. I like to run in the morning very much cause then I feel very fresh.
Hi everyone - first post on this thread!

I've been running for around 18 months now, I'm trying to do 5k and 10k distances. I have pushed past these in the past. I don't do enough interval training/hill reps/pyramid speed intervals, I really need to try and put some in!

Problem is I think i'm suffering from a shin splint? Tends to be my left leg, but I do have discomfort in the right one. I think my shoes are fairly well fitting, however I do run a lot on concrete/tarmac roads etc which supposedly is not good at all.

Any tips for recovery and further prevention of shin splints? Cheers guys.

Although you may feel to be well support you might want to get your gait analysed. You can do this at most specialised running shops. I run on roads most of the time and don't seem to have problems. What sort of injuries you might want to do a longer warm up and stretches before hand.
New 5k time of 30:15!!! :woo:

That's a whopping 1:30 off my previous best.

Just annoyed I couldn't have been 15 seconds faster! :fuhrer:

You will take off that 15 another time! Well done!!

Did a 4,8k today (yeah, 4,8, my Half Marathon schedule works in 800m multitudes  ) in 26.08 (11km/hr, 5.28min/km) and tomorrow I'll go on with an 8k with two 1600m intervals of 'sprinting' (5.41min/km) and the rest at around 6.20min/km.

Love the fact that fall is setting in properly now: temperatures are perfect for running now, especially at the end of the day!
Schedule slightly interrupted by rush of female patients meaning i have to go somewhere different to usual, but hopefully i will be able to put in another 8K on the way back home.
