Medicine Supercurriculars

Hello everyone,

I want to study Medicine at University, and so I have attempted to do activities in school which are medically related to strengthen my application. However, this has been unsuccessful so far. For example, I wanted to run a Biology society to demonstrate leadership; however, someone had got there before me. I had planned to create a "Medical and Dental Journal"; however, someone had already got there before me too. Furthermore, I had planned to launch a Chemistry magazine, but input from my teacher suggested that it was not required because there was already a Science magazine.

Are there any other tasks which I could do at school to demonstrate leadership, or any potential types of societies I could run (there is already a Medical Society at my school)?

if you can't lead the club yourself, try and get a 'role' in the society or ask to be a member of the 'committee'. for example in med soc you could ask to be further reading leader, lead a few sessions on topics like nhs, ethics etc - shows organisation and leadership if you work with a few others
It doesn't matter what the specific activity is, what matters are the transferable leadership skills and experiences you get. You could achieve this by starting a pikachu fanclub as much as anything else.

Otherwise things like participating in science fairs and such may be of interest to a couple of medical schools which emphasise the basic sciences.
