Chrissy, it will be much, much easier to get any kind of managment / project based work. Without a degree or gaining experience through working (which usually takes longer) it is a much lesser chance you will get a role higher up in a more established company. Also you are gaining knowledge which you can apply to any job you join and therefore probably be recognised for that. Also if you are wanting to start your own business or help run a business, business studies has so much to teach you.

Basically not only is it a recognised qualification, you learn a lot, it is not just about passing exams, it is more giving you info and preparing you for business situations.

Good Luck Chrissy

Depends what you want to do really...
But I know that people with a business management degree are in demand:
http://money.cnn.com/2004/11/12/pf/college/degrees_jobs/
Namely accounting, business admin and marketing..
Also if you end up in a good university (like King's College London - im only saying that because im going there hahaah) they usually have good jobs lined up for you at the end.. often companies come in and scope the classes and look at profiles of people and look for potential employees. often you can get a contract with these companies where u get upto 11 months training, and u work on a 5 year contract for example. A job like that looks great on the CV and its a great way to gain training and work experience.. and you start in a reasonably high position - obviously depending on your grades..

One thing tho is, you have to be passionate about it and have the right mindset for business.. a lot of people take it as a backup thing esp. if they dont know what tehy want to do.. i reckon thats proibably not the right thing to do...

Some people claim specialising eg into dentistry, medicine etc. is more effective - i reckon its perhaps a safer route to take.. and less of a white collared form of labour.. but ofcourse if that's what interests you, then that would be a great opportunity..

In all to answer your question, if u get a good mgt. degree, at a good uni, you're boudn to get far, but be passionate and enjoy the subject.. specialise in what you are good at and what you enjoy..

Hey guys I thought I'd bring this very old topic back to life.

Anyways, can someone who has a degree in business honestly tell me about if business is a good degree to complete? Can you ensure a good career out of it?

I do an accounting course myself but I have friends who do management which is the equivalent of business at Nottingham. The major differences is business gives you a taste of everything where as my course is more accounting focused (obvious i know).

If you know you want to work in business but don't know which section then a business degree maybe a good option. Because it will allow you to try new things in business and then you can specialise via optional mods in your more preferred parts in your 2nd year.

However if theres certain parts you prefer like marketing or finance then i suggest just doing accounting or marketing.

I would advise looking at the "times good uni guide 2009" (google it) as this ranks all the business subjects by Uni, so you can see which is ranked highest.

Hi, I've just done a Business Management degree despite always having the intention to work in marketing. I found it really useful getting an over view of numerous aspects of the business world, ie HR, finance and employment law. My course was good as i got to choose most of my subjects in final year which meant i could specialise in marketing. I'm guessing this is the same at most unis?

Overall, i know i'm biased but i think a management or business related degree will be useful in an increasingly competitive job market. Plus, its pretty interesting!
