Hey everybody!!! Id like to study either business or a ppe/hsps course at uni, and at the moment I'm thinking of taking a levels in french, chemistry, geography and classical civilisation. Are these ok? If not, which subjects should I not do and what should I replace them with? Any help much appreciated  thanks!

Yes but I would say that the most obvious choices would be Politics, Philosophy and Economics given that is what you want to do at uni

Okay, so both options are social sciences along with their daddy philosophy. Why are you picking chemistry?

Right, this is going to be a long post detailing my ongoing internal battle between two things that I love. Please don't get bored before the end, I genuinely need help.

My A-Level options are currently Spanish, French, English language and history. I love all four of these subjects but I think the one I love least is history. However, over the last few weeks I have begun to feel a gnawing sensation within me, and I have realised just how much I am beginning to miss science. Now, that isn't to say that I'm not missing the others, but I regularly have conversations in Spanish and French with my mum and so I am constantly surrounded by them. But in the recent weeks that have marked my leaving school, I have begun to question whether I really enjoy history as much as I think I do, as there will be an enormous workload and it will be a huge commitment - that is, will I miss doing history as much as I feel that I miss science. The science in question is biology and when originally choosing my options I had a hard time deciding to take history over biology, and having worked out from previous modules my ideal mark for an A*, I believe that there is a high likelihood that I have been able to achieve it (touch wood!!). I am also predicted an A* in history. Another factor is that history would be easier than biology to continue as a hobby, and I realise that by not taking any science A-Level, I have closed off a huge amount of career paths. Now, although I am pretty certain that I will eventually go into MFL teaching, there is nothing to stop me going into a science career either.

I am incredibly grateful if you actually read the whole of this post and I am not entirely sure if it makes sense, but I would really appreciate your feedback - I am also going to find my biology teacher on results day and discuss this with her, especially if I do get a really high grade. Thank you so much in advance!!!!

I would drop History and do Science as it will not close off any career paths in the future.
Oh alright. Thanks alot. So do you think that I should start reading sociology before college starts?

Because as tess rach said I think I would miss doing science. However I guess I could drop it. Should I perhaps do philosophy instead?

I was goung to make a point about business studies being a waste of time as an A level if you want to study Economics.

Not necessarily, it depends what subject you wanna do or where you wanna go, contrary to popular belief, there isn't much overlap.

That's my point entirely.
How would German, English Literature, Maths and Economics/Physics/Biology be looked upon?
I really want to do a science but I'm quite keen on economics too? If anyone has taken this or is considering taking this let me know, I'm also not sure what you can do with an A-level in economics as I have no desire in taking it further in UNI. Thanks in advance:smile:

Hello! I have finally worked out what i want to study at uni. I would like to study Environmental Science or BioChemistry. My A-Level Options are Biology, Chemistry, Psychology, Sociology, Maths (Self Taught) or Environmental Studies (Self Taught). What do you think is more important to do Maths or Environmental Studies? I would like to study in the Republic Of Ireland so i need to get top grades. What are your tips and suggestions? How to you get the a*'s at A Level? I am willing to do any extra exams/courses i need to do! Thank You!

You need to be able to motivate yourself when things are not going according to plan. I would say for your prospective courses it is better to do Environmental studies and to get good grades you just need to stay motivated. Recap at home everything you've learnt in college and try additional questions on them. After the end of the topic make revision posters and start revising very very early on.

Finally past papers are a mans best friend. Kill them out and make sure you do all of them

However Maths is easier to self teach than Environmental Studies in my own opinion

I'd be inclined to say maths as it will be easier to self teach and get help for, and is less specialised so better for if you change your mind on what you want to do between now and then. In addition, I don't know much about it but I can't imagine you need environmental studies to be able to study it at uni, whereas something like maths you may need in some places for biochemistry or even something like geography for environmental sciences

I hated Philosophy so much.

It depends what modules your college picks though. Mine did Mind & Religion and it was the worst course I've ever done :frown:

C1 is non calculator.
Everything else is calculator. I believe this applies to all exam boards
