The Student Room Group
the answer is sqrt(2)/sqrt(3)
sqrt(50) = sqrt(25x2) = 5 x sqrt(2)
sqrt(27) = sqrt(9x3) = 3 x sqrt(3)

and then cancel
meh, im failing to get this...using the book as help i got this
http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/2209/thing3uc.jpg

but i dont really get it :confused:

edit - bottom one...ignore the top bit
check this :biggrin:
cheers im still a bit :confused: but i'll get it with time

i'll rep you in a few hours when I get it back
do you know the basic rules or turds surds?
nope...the college cocked up my time table so im missed the first few lessons when the others were learning it.
so i dont have a clue what surds are or how to do them! :frown:

surely you learnt them last year :confused:

anyway...

√(ab) = √a√b

√(a/b) = √a / √b

√a + √b ≠ √(a+b)
try: http://www.bbc.co.uk/education/asguru/maths/12methods/01algebra/02surds/index.shtml

its a good site to learn all the basics on, and plenty of examples

ollie :biggrin:

oh and :biggrin: :biggrin:

Nope i done intermediate :p:

can anyone explain to me how to do this question.......im stuck

3(sqrt)50
----------(divided)
5(sqrt)27

thanks...i'll give you rep if you make me understand it :biggrin:

Have you looked at

check this :biggrin:

This is almost correct, the answer is sqrt6/3

At least your college are getting on with things. Mine are still on gathering terms and factorising (i thought everyone learnt this at gcse??!). Lessons are sooo booring but i cant go into the further maths group until they rearrange the timetable (if that ever happens).

3sqrt50 = 3 * Sqrt(25 * 2) = 3*5*Sqrt2 = 15Sqrt2
5Sqrt27 = 5Sqrt(9*3) = 15Sqrt3

-> 3(sqrt)50
----------
5(sqrt)27

= (15Sqrt2)/(15Sqrt3)
= Sqrt(2/3)
Nima

= Sqrt(2/3)

the denominator is irrational, its not simplified
silent ninja
the denominator is irrational, its not simplified

Rt2/Rt3 = Rt2.Rt3 / 3 = Sqrt6 / 3

Happy now?
uhh... just pointing it out, i'm sure in an exam that would lose you marks.
