Big Thread for Personal Statement Questions

Hello
I want to be a vet when I'm older but the only problem is that my grades are going to be average but not amazing, like some of the opposition. I was just wondering if anyone had any advice on things that could strengthen my Personal Statement. E.G courses, extra curricula activities and so on.
Thank You
Tim
you need them?

seriously...apparantly quite a few vet school have stringent requirements on the amount of work exp that you need before you apply...so have a look on uni websites
Inb4 'improve your spelling'.
Place on a table, put a book on it and sit on the book.

What kind of grades are you looking at?
A and 3B's which is the entry requirement for Edinburgh uni
Is that predicted grades? Cos you could really do with trying all you can to end up with AAB(B) if possible. As far as I know (although I may be wrong) edinburgh are the only place that will accept 4 alevels at those grades. Most places say there is no advantage to having more than 3 alevels, so would expect AAB. If you are only eligable to one place you in a huge case of eggs in one basket and the odds aren't that good! Most people only get one or two offers after applying to four places. So the chances of you getting an offer from only applying to one place isn't that high tbh.

You obviously need to make sure you tick all the other boxes - lots of varied work experience. All the basics and then some different stand out placements if possible. Maybe a long term placement somewhere.

ECs such as voluntary work (doesn't have to just be animal stuff), DukeofEd award (Gold), youth group work.

Courses such as vetsim etc aren't worth the money imo. Over commercialised to the point where tutors won't pay any attention to them. If you want to do courses pick some sort of science or animal course.

Hi, sorry I know this isn't in the right thread for this but I was wondering if it would harm my application if I dont have DofE? I've got all the necessary work experience and should be ok with getting the grades, also helping my school renovate a garden area, help out with open days, craft fairs.. I do photography in spare time, I'm starting going to the gym and I volunteer at an animal sanctuary.. But everyone seems to have DofE or play an instrument :/
Thanks

for each of my work experience placements i've put how long i spent there, either in brackets or as in "x days at such and such taught me..." but i have a few long-term placements and not sure what to write for those. should i work it out in days/weeks or write how many months i spent there? i haven't really got enough space to write "one morning a week for twelve months"...

Why dont you put down how many hours? The space is killer, im 1000 characters over and cant find anything to delete grrr
