The Student Room Group
I have some friends who did archaeology at uni. A couple of them have relevant jobs, both did masters degrees, but I don't know how much influence they had, as they both have good 2.1s.

First of all archaeology is a good general degree to have - lots of people work in th discipline or related fields (heritage etc), whilst others enter different professions. It develops a range of general skills that employers like - team working, co-operation, problem solving etc..

Archaeology has rarely been well paid and has always had a lot of short term contracts, but has a validity that is more and more accepted by employers. Give the course a chance before you make a final decision.
